Finally decided to put up my own sketchbook, after 16 months as a member.... :nohope:
The main reason I haven't put one up yet is because I'm too lazy to scan my sketchbook and I didn't think my stuff was 'worthy' enough of posting. If I want some advice from people who know what the hell they are talking, this is the right place! After all, I want to improve and getting advice (and actually listening to it!;)) is the way. I'll try to scan and upload most of my stuff in my sketchbook, even though that could take a while and most of the stuff are just quick scribbles. Thank you for your time and bandwidth! :^^:

Yippie! Today is my birthday and I got a set of acrylics! I never used it before but will be experimenting with it soon, and post it ofcourse. I hope I will get some advice on using acrylics.

iam 23 now.. .. 3 years ago i was so fukin misserable at drawing.. i was so fukin noob wuahaha :D i was just unable to draw like u can draw now :O

so.. you are doing very very very g00d O_o
thee lil tiny figure posture drawings are nice ..do more of them :D

when u get probs with alligning arms and legs.. draw them as easy geometrie first : cylinders.. allign cylinder and then allign the muscles and stuff inside the cylinder ,, its much easier to start simple and then adding more details

iam doing lotsa simple studies like this.. atm iam drawing more then 250 chin and jaw shapes per paper sheet to train my hand .. cylinder studies will come next.. to train my hand to perfeorm more smooth movement.. and.. usual i draw from left to right..this time i train my hand to draw good from right to left.. its diffrent movement performt with the wrist..just a matter of habituation but.. for me its a good training.. i just can recommend it but.. u need to be patient :^^:

Thanks sideshowbob for your comments. I think I need to do some exercises for smoother drawing as well, that's why I like to make those little sketches with ink. I have another acrylics piece....

Very good plants and animals!

I was going to suggest studying anatomy and figure drawings, but you seem to be doing that! Really amazed at the jump from the first few bodies to the last few! Either way, keep drawing from life and studying the old anatomy book!

Great job, man! Post some of your newer stuff and some figures and such! Love to see it.

What is wrong with the female anatomy study? Breasts too high? Upper leg too large?
By the way, it was drawn without the lines, I added them later to see if I could draw an anatomically correct figure without them.

I've done something with charcoal. I'm not really happy with the result. Cruise's eyes are weird, the girl's head's too small, Milano's left eye is all slant, and Clooney's right eye is..just... I don't know, but it's not right. I still have a lot to learn :(

The last drawings show a definite likeness to their subjects, Milano's construction lines are off and (tom's) left eye it placed too high, practicing head contruction can help with these problems. I'd recommend checking out "drawing the head and hands" over at saveloomis.org . You have some good stuff going on, you just need to practice anatomy more often :wink:

Your drawings look overal very solid to me was I feel you do lack is practice on eyes. Do some more of the eyestudies you did in your last update. It'll do you good! :)

hey jermaine, sweet life drawings, the looseness really catches my eye, very gestural...you handle the lines well, and get a sense of mass an weight across nicely...I only notice that the faces tend to be distorted due to foreshortening....keep in mind that the feature of the face wrap around the head and have different shapes because of it....keep working!

Hmm, most of the images didn't load for me, but from what I can see there looking good. It seems like you enjoy using watercolor. Keep up the good work man!

interesting to follow your improvement, particularly like the last painted girls hands and the way you are using bluishwhite color on the left edge of the figure and on fingers and here and there

Make use of simple forms, blocks, to help map out the body. I'm looking at the pic 3rd from the bottom, the female pelvic area. Look to understand the reason of the forms, why something looks as it does. The waist is created from the bottom/end of the thorax, the female thorax is smaller than mens, this tell us that the waist will be higher up and therefore higher than the umbilicus. Non-reffed figure drawing is dependent on understanding the skeleton. The purpose of studying the skeleton is to know where muscles connect, and to have identifiable landmarks to help with proportion, and placement. Knowing where the iliac crests are would help improve that drawing. The pace has picked up recently and I hope you keep it up, my advice though would be to limit the amount of pictures per update. It's just my feeling that when people go above 5 or 6 that they're starting to impose.

I will certainly not abandon the ref'd stuff! And thank you, armando, I will buy an anatomybook ASAP, and as soon as my wallet permits it... :( I hope it will help me get more understanding of the body, and also the terminology because to be honest some words in your post are just like Chinese to me. :)

I'm sorry if you think I try to impose. All those first posts I just put them together to get a quick view of my past, they were just dead links when I decided to revive my sketchbook. It's just that I lately have little time and therefore when I get the chance to update my sketchbook I tend to immediately post all I have to post. I will post less images at one time from now though.

When I look back at most of my previous life drawings I do get the sense that I have improved, but when I draw I don't have the feeling 'hey it's going much better now'.. don't know if that's normal though.

En ja een Nederlands landschap gaat er altijd in he. Lekker plat. Soms een beetje saai en dan gaat het vervelen. Ik vind bergen en heuvels echt prachtig!

very nice stuff. I have the same 40 dollar anatomy book! its the shit. as a matter of fact i just did a study from there last week. You're definitely improving with your paintings, but you need plenty of work. Study the masters as much as you can.

Great improvement. Good to see so much life work. You seem in the right way, work to deepen your studies. The volume is a little underdeveloped so you probably shouldn't copy from photographs. Keep at it.
