Hello,

This is my first post to this awesome forum, hope to make some contribution too. As i recently got my hands on a copy of Painter, i decided to give it a go. Usually more of a pencil-paper kind of person ;-) The image is sort of a concept art trial depicting a seamonster and a small sketch of the same monster when it has its mouth closed. It was done in painter in about an hour using 'dry marker'.

(hope the image comes in, lol)

Any comments are most welcome!

I like it, but something is missing on the monster on the right likes hes not done or something... I like the effect of it being a bit blurry. Good work though for ur first try

Maybe I'm just impatient or maybe my drawing is poor quality...

Anyway, thanx icon^zeno for your crit, maybe the right seamonster could have used some more detail in the back area, true.

Should have gone for the WIP forum probably ;) sorry for that.

Hope to send some more soon!

Regards,
E.

This is looking really good.

I think you can better define the form of the creature by making more obvious the surface changes. It gets a little muddy on the rendered creature's spine area.

Also, I think the composition could be a bit more dynamic by contrasting the face (foreground) with the tail (background) by lightening the values of the tail and rendering it slightly less. This will change the focus to what is closest to the camera and add more depth to the creature. You can also sharpen up your line quality on the parts closest to the camera (his face).

Lighting and color is looking great!

Cheers.

I think the pic has alot going for it. However, a few points:

1 - The colours Yellow and Blue clash (not as bad as orange and blue). This makes the pic seem quite harsh for an underwater scene.

2 - The marker in Painter goes to black when you use it over the same area again and again. Try experimenting with the Oil Pastels. They're a great way to get good colour blending and texture. The Markers work quite well for the initial sketches.

Anyway, keep it up.
