Hi folks,

As this is a forum dedicated to arts and this section to movies&musik my question is this:

Do you hear/watch musik/films while drawing ?

If so of what kind what bands, series, films etc. would that be.

________

For my part, if i wanna paint seriously i have to listen to music to be not concerned about anything except my dawing.
Sounds odd - i know ^^.

In that case it is genres like emo, electronic, or some band that does depressing music.

Raggae or folk will strictly keep me from drawing :)

Bands are :
Hopesfall, the cure, four tet, aphex twin...

Greets

Music is king for me. Depends on the subject. I got a whole bunch of these ambience albums that have this really cool music that I sometimes pop in. It helps to hear something non mainstream to get some more orginal ideas.

Recently I've been diving into some Tool.

Yeah i like tool as well - lateralus is a great cd

When i want do draw from reference it would be to fast i guess.
But great for free drawings, i sometimes even like to listen to hard/grind-core when in the mood for some action-drawings :)

I prefer heavy metal. Metal from the 80's and current European bands are my definate favorite! I reccomend Amon Amarth with a slight sprinkling of Dream Evil and Slayer. Heavy metal helps me visualize my idea.

i could never draw if there was some video running beside me,except when it's a music video and i'm not watching it,but only listening to the music.
music on the other hand is very good when drawing. it helps you get into a certain mood sometimes, which might help with the piece you're currently doing.
i listen to hardrock mostly, like korn, system of a down, puddle of mudd, marilyn manson, but sometimes i listen to anything else too. just not rap and pop. oh,and electronica. generally.
i highly recommend sting,he's got a style like noone else.

Sometimes i think listening to music while drawing helps me to get a flow.
In general i listen most time to music when i have a pencil in my hand.

It has to be some dramatic, dynamic one.
If it is classical stuff like Liszt Totestanz
or Videogamemusic, prog rock... fine.

Ever listen to "Naked City"....? 8)

I have a problem that every CD in my house has some sort of 'baggage' attached to it. That is: I listen to it, and it instantly reminds me of something or some event that happened when I listened to it.

So, when I'm working, I have to pick my music carefully. I try to get something that puts me in that drawing state without throwing random 'flashbacks' at me.

Fortunately, this works both ways: when I'm in a slump, sometimes all I need to do is pop in a CD I was listening to during a really productive time, and it'll jump-start me enough to get going.

With that in mind, I can't really name particular bands or albums, although "Guided By Light" by Last Rites sure seems to have a lot of mileage left in it.

I was wondering if anyone else had this problem with music, or if it's just me. The people I talk to about this all claim they don't have this 'baggage' problem.

And it *is* a problem, simply because I'm rapidly running out of music to listen to. :)

@ Xaya: Naked City - dont know, checking out

@ Mr. Black.: How about some new Music? Some you have no connections to what so ever.
If you like smooth electronic music try "Fourtet" (īroundsī album is good)
If you like Emo try "at the drive in- in casino out"
blablabal
i have too many good cds in mind ^^

I have another question.

What do you do to get you started drawing??

Found some new music, actually, and just in time, too! "Shadows Fall"...good stuff.

As for your question: I sit down at the art table. :)

I sit here all day at my day job looking forward to going home and getting some *real* work done. ;)

Who would watch movies while drawing? Sounds kinda odd. I listen mainly to non sung music, er, I mean music with no singin in it.
