I am also interested in going to acad. I've heard great things about the photography courses, but that's it. i would love more info on other people's experiences. either that or suggestions of a school in BC to look at.

I saw this thread and thought I could help. I am currently in my third year at ACAD and I am just finishing my second year in the Visual Communications/ Design program (graphic design/ illustration). In my opinion ACAD is a great school, although in my opinion certain mojors are lacking. So really the quality of education that you get will greatly depend on what major you wish to go into.
As far as the fine arts classes go they are very self driven and very different from class to class depending on what teacher you have.
Photography and Visual Communications (VC) are both design degrees and follow a very different set of standards then the rest of the college.
The VC degree is the most applicable to the type of work seen on this site most of the time, more specifically the illustration stream offers classes in character design by fourth year.
The VC program will work you like a dog, but its well worth it.
I don't check the forum that often so if you have any questions you can send me an email at visual_anarchy@hotmail.com
I hope I helped...
