Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young are so inspirational. I just listened to an old friends' classic mix cd and these guys blow me away. Southern Man, live, is one of the best jam solos I've ever heard. They draw it out and jam in their own world forever and it's so god-damn good. I'm not sure if the song is an official record release or not but I highly advise all of you that are into relaxing check out "4 Way Street". Some masters at work.

Anyone know if Neil Young was added before or after Crosby, Stills, and Nash?

I believe he was. Also, I think C,S & N's first public gig was at Woodstock! Not too much pressure there. lol.

One of the C,S & N guys was in a band will Neil Young called "Buffalo Springfield" way back in the early 60's I believe. They made that song (I forget the title) that goes; "Stop, children/What's that sound?/Everybody look at what's going down." The two later hooked up and added Young to C, S &N.

If you want to check out great live extended jams, I suggest The Allman Brother's record "Live at the Fillmore." The jams extend for more than twenty minutes and the band sounds great. Just listen to "Tied to the Whipping Post" and you'll see what I mean. One of the best live albums ever.

Have to check the CSN&Y album out. Never really thought of them as a jam band but Ive also only heard studio stuff now that I think about it.. although Ive heard Neil Young & Crazy Horse live and really think that is top notch. Rust Never Sleeps.. need to pull that out now.

Buffalo Springfeild is a great band! I think it was Stills that was in that band with Young.. and Crosby came from the Birds. Not sure which band Nash came from but I think it was a fairly famous British band.

Three cheers for Live at the Fillmore. I'd also recommend Eat a Peach (kind of a mixture of live and studio Allman Bros) and their box set. Gotta say that the Allman Brothers are probably some of the best musicians to ever play music together. Ive seen them live a few times and they put a spring in my step for days after the show had ended.
