Hello all, first post, Ive been following for quite a bit. However, finding myself to have nothing to contribute, I simply never registered. either way, i realized i have a problem with getting started.

I can do pretty good work once the ball is rolling, however gettin that damned ball to move can be difficult at times. anyone else have any suggestions as to any techniques that will get rid of this problem. btw, Im relatively new, and am basicly working on technique, anatomy and composition, so often times i try to work on these. thanks in advance :D

I've been told that a good exercise to start off with before drawing is to do a blind drawing of something. Spend five minutes drawing something complex like wrinkles on a paper bag without looking at you drawing. This is supposed to help in getting you switched over to the right side of your brain.

Music can be good. I was just listening to some speed metal and I started headbanging along to it. That all of a sudden made me want to draw a headbanging guitarist.

I have several pages of exercises in a Word doc. I'll post it for everyone when I get home from school tonight. Look for the thread in the Life Drawing section, as I'd like to get others' ideas/exercises and add to it.

Later,
