RE4 surpassed my expectations the most.. I have to vote for that.... although I really did like half-life 2 and even halo 2 (despite it's lack of ending, the presentation was top notch).

Gonna have to go with Half-Life 2, even though Snake Eater was oh so close.

Haven't played RE4 yet because I'm seriously trying to avoid distractions from drawing right now. Distractions such as voting for my favourite game of the year on a message board. DAMMIT!

Jeez, I'm surprised that there aren't more Metroid fans showing their love. I just finished Prime 2 last weekend after about 35 logged hours of playing it. I swear, there was not a single moment where I was not mesmerized. I loved everything about it, the environments, the creatures, the plot elements and especially the play mechanics and level design. Like the first one, these all added up to create an incredible experience. I’ll tell you it was also pretty damn satisfying after beating the final bosses and watching the end cinematic.

I also think it’s a great idea that players are rewarded for being thorough. I’ve never really understood why in the past, you’re rewarded for fast completion on the 2d metroid games. In my opinion, a Metroid game shouldn’t be rushed, it should be savored.

HL2 and its subsidiary games, definately. Deathmatch is a brilliant multiplayer game.

HL2 is a cinematic journey. It makes you part of the story. I love it.

If San Andreas wins, i'll eat my hat.

I think Burnout 3, Resident Evil 4, and Half Life 2 are the only games that were actually innovative. Actually, I don't know too much about Metroid Prime 2 (Compared to MP1) or MGSSE (Compared to MGS2), but I know that Halo 2 and San Andreas weren't a big step up from the previous one. They're great games, but if you look at it, they just made everything BIGGER. Bigger cities, bigger enemies, bigger guns, bigger storyline.

Out of those three, I'm going with HL2 because it looks so damn gorgeous and it makes the environment a part of the game.

Not sure if anyone else has said this, but Resident Evil 4 came out this year, not 2004. Just some clearification.

Metroid Rules. :teeth:

World of Warcraft

And anyone that appreciates good art and gameplay should know this :P

Edit: Then you should change the title to "best game ending" if thats what you are evaluating.

its a tough choice, re4 or hl2, id go with halflife because
there is more replay value, with all the mod possibility you
cant go wrong.

Pikmin 2 was game of 2004 for me. Easy win for Cap'n Olimar.
