Hey y'all. Pretty soon I'm likely to be heading to Boston, or at least somewhere in New England, and I'm looking for an Atelier-style school in the area. Basically something relatively cheap, with a focus on life-drawing.

I checked the ARC website and there wasn't anything listed for Massachusetts, so I'm wondering if the closest thing is the Art Students League in New York. Which wouldn't be too bad, but I'm a New Englander at heart, so if I can find something there I'd rather take that.

Any advice/ideas? The cheapest art school I could find was the Art Institute, and MassArt is only cheap if you're a resident. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I'm in Boston and I am at the AIB right now. I'm not sure if I would reccommend it to anyone however.

I was attending SVA in New York but had to transfer because of finanical difficulties. After studying in SVA's program it is extremely difficult to transfer to a school like AIB.

The faculty at AIB is ok, there are a couple instructors who are really good, but you have to hunt them down. Like most schools, do your homework on the faculty. Also, the school is a bit of a dump. AIB has recently became part of Lesley University and I believe the plan is to move the school to Cambridge eventually so for now it seems as though they spend zero money on mainting the facilities.

Mass art has better facilities but I dont think the faculty is as good.

There is a atelier called The New England Realist Art Center run by an artist named Dennis Cheaney who was a student at Water Street I believe. If you're interested in that sort of thing you should check out the site.

Hope this helps. If you have any other questions I can try and help you out. We are a small communty here in Boston.

cheers.

Thanks man, I'm not sure if they have enough classes to do what I want, but at least it's something.
