love the astronauts and firetrap stuff.

2nd astronauts one reminds me of patlabor and appleseed stuff -
great highlights on the equipment - nice touch - no atmosphere is space = super bright light - smooth!

firetrap girl makes me think of jackie from "that seventies show" - always a pleasure

Goddam... excellent, as always, though I don't like the lines on the first two, at least compared to your smoother style.

Same comment as Sigge... is that piece a collaboration with Cheeks?

Nice smooth coloring especially on the girl. I like how you handled the background there , nice work!

I read the "Creative Arts" interview and was knocked out by your work. I'm glad to see more of it. I love the "hazy" feel that some of your images have, a kind of glow about them. The illustration for the Downs Syndrome kids book has this quality about it. Is this a technique you could share with us?

I also love the linework. The attention to detail reminds me a little of Geoff Darrow, especially the camera in the first image, and your treatment of materials and folds in the clothing is great.

Inspiring stuff. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Really great work!

I'm really wondering how your creative progress goes, just as feng I'm really interested in how you get your lines so tight. Maybe you could do a quick tutorial on your website? Anyway, keep up te great work! ;)

So nice, they look like stills from a feature film animation!
My favorate is the guy in the green vest. Your color choices for him are outstanding. I particularly like the creamish colored main light, and the soft color bleed throughout the whole thing. 8-)

As always, I love your palette on each of these. That background for the firetrap girl is a fun fun background. The use of negative space just helps it read so well. Great work all around.

Total thumbs up! The the flat shading is spot on, and so are the firetrap models. But the last one!!!...........f***ing awesome :D

First and only manga-style illustration I've liked in years. Most manga-esque artwork is underworked and overdone, but this stuff is TOP NOTCH!

Great work!

That's not saying much. Most anything on this planet is crap compaired to the good stuff. There is a TON of great Anime and Manga and you are not going to find it on Cartoon Network or even the lastest released in America.

Sorry for HighJacking your thread like that Gez. I felt the need to say something.

Yeah, I think we're all begging for a WIP/tutorial on your methods; lots of folks are trying to use colored linework but precious few have results like yours.

Great lighting in all of these, particularly the firetrap and astronaut images. What I like about the Down's Syndrome image is that the kid on the left looks the part but there's no appeal for pity in the way you represent him; it's a very happy image. Excellent.

thanks a lot guys!

sigge - thanks. when i read the brief for the boxing pic i thought it called for a cartoony look. it was fun to do, always nice to have a change of pace.

max-cant - thanks! i've only watched that 70's show once, so i don't know who the girl is. i'm curious now!

dementist - nope, all me. thanks.

kingrobot - cheers. about the shading technique, it's just your regular cel shading, as used in anime.

feng - thanks! that means a lot coming from you. about the inking, most of them were done illustrator, and the last one was photoshop.

raxx - someone nicked it.

gilles - not much to it, just a thin brush in illustrator :)

J the J - thanks dood! and of course i agree about anime - i'm not a huge anime fan, but the good ones are great (like any genre).

mogando - these are all digital.

bwkeough - cheers. i'm glad you thought that about the down syndrome pic, as i wanted to make sure he wasn't a figure of fun, but rather a kid having fun.

angel of light - thanks. yeah there are a couple of hokusai homages in that pic.

thanks again everyone :)

You're right there is a ton of great anime and manga. I appreciate you assuming I only watch cartoon network for my manga fix. I hate TV.

I guess I meant to say that I've been reading these forums for years, and 99.99999% of Manga-esque artwork I see posted in here makes me want to vomit. Pictures of Chun Li and that sort of tripe. Varying from colored pencil on lined paper to digital paintings on flat white backgrounds of "ninjas" or some crap. ... inevitably, after years, it drove me to the conclusion that anime-style work attracted a lot of lame fanboi artists, and since I hadn't seen anything good manga-style in the way of "hey guys look at this" sort of posts, I was beginning to detest it as a cliche genre for teenagers with dellusional aspirations. This thread and the above pictures has renewed my faith that there are fresh new artists out there with more than enough talent to do manga and do it really really well. Gezstar is outstanding and will definitely be one of my inspiration points when/if I ever attempt to tackle any piece "manga"!

Proof? I came back to look at it again, didn't I? (I was actually showing a friend)

There, Josh, I hope I explained that for you. And I hope it was saying enough.

Gezstar... fabulous work.

good stuff, gezstar, i really like all of them. some nice variety too. do u ever do vehicles or straight architecture? i'd like to see, if you do.

hey slickcoder, i know exactly what you mean about the whole 'l00K @mai anIM3 kUNg f00 Maenz everyw0Nz' sorta thing you see here and all over the web, it does get tiring.
There might actually be a few more quality 'anime/manga-sorta-style' artists here on conceptart.org than you've seen, like Tony 'Koro' Leonard (http://www.tonikoro.com/fp.asp), Maxx Soul (http://www.maxxsoul.com/gallery.htm) and even bengal (http://www.cafesale.net/bengal/index.php3).
There are probably more that I can't remember, but check those guys out, i reckon you'll like them.

haha! i love the evisu logos flying around in the sky with birds. half expected them to be little waves next to hokusais wave aswell..

these are all great but i really dig the design and texture on the evisu poster. is it a paper overlay or a printout scanned - cause the borderlines also look nice and natural?

keep it up.
