We are holding a contest for an upcoming game named Alptraum, a next-gen console/pc game. The game will be a horror/action/thriller, and is hoped to be one of the most disturbing and scarey games ever made. But to make it so scarey, we need to know what others think is scarey, not just us...
The contest doesnt involve any money, but we arent in it for the money. This is an opprotunity to show our work to the world, and a chance for you as well...
So head to our forum, check the rules, and start creating..

So you want everybody to create concepts and give you whatever in their mind. Why should people do that? How can you ask something worths thousands of dollars for free to make a worldwide famous game project ? This is very cheap trick mate. You shouldn't do that here.

some people may feel like doing some images just for the hell of it, I know for one my work isn't good enough yet to be sold or for me to get a proper job however it's all experience I guess.
Doesn't look like hes asking us to come work for them for free, hes saying if you want to help out then do so. Ultimately I think the word contest was maybe the wrong statement, however as stated if its successful its a way for people to show how they have contributed to something out there and they've had that little bit of experience.
If it doesn't go ahead, hey you've got some images which you like and can add to your own portfolio.

Neat website design. I think a little more info is needed, however. Some creature concepts, while frightening, might not fit into the concept for the game. Like Kresimir said, we could use some info about the setting, time period, and so on.

Don't get us wrong, we are not theives. IF the game does turn out to be a success and we do, infact, profit from it, then anyone who contributes will be compensated accordingly. Now that I've got that out of the way...
The game is set in the near future, like an alternate reality. Technology will be more advanced than current, but not quite to where it is in doom3, and similar type games.
The storyline is set around two realities that, while parallel, are completely different. One is the "normal" world and the other is a "nightmare" world (yes, thats what alptraum actually means "NightTerror"). Certain experiments cause the player to switch between worlds and such. It is a combination 1st and 3rd person shooter. The "monsters" we are looking for need to be dark, and resemble mutations of real world creatures (preferrable, but not necessary). It will take place in many types of areas, indoor factory-type settings to forests. bla bla bla, I'll give more info if it's needed. I don't want to give too many specific details about the actual story at this point, but I'll give you whatever you need to work with...
some things i would suggest to work with though:
Shadow-like creatures
Mutations of People (claws and stuff, not zombies...)

Crazy. That's exactly like a game concept I came up with in school for a project. Same storyline and concept and everything. I'll dig out a few of the old sketches I did for it and re-draw them, they sound fairly similar to what you're looking for.

yea, technically it means alp dream due to the crazy capitalization i wanted...truely it is Alptraum, literally German for Nightmare...
Yea, i've been writing this for a while, and i'm really getting into it. i'm sure it is different from your story golden, at least slightly, haha. i would release more, but i've had bad luck with that in the past...

So you're making Silent Hill all over again?
Not to sound like an ass, but your gameplay concept (about switching between normalcy and a "nightmare" version) and the type of creatures you're looking for (clawed mutated versions of reality) is the very thing that Silent Hill uses in all its games to make their atmosphere scarey. If it's inspired by that, it'll be neat to see a new game's take on the concept.
I'm eager to see what people come up with for you guys for this project.

I've based some of the scary stuff off of the things that have actually gotten to me in a game...not just make you jump. We're trying to also create an atmosphere that scares people in ways that are completely new. If I get it right the game will destroy little children mentally >:D ! hehe

Does your team have all the recourses required? Budget, progammers, artisits etc... By the looks of It I dont see this. Making a game isnt a childs game, as far as I understand your team doesnt really have everything needed, Why would you be sniffing around art forums then?
Not to be harsh but I have seen many people like you who say Im going to make a game(Some even get a nice Demo running) But it ends up trash,
Even in your website there is bad language used, Thats very unprofessional in my veiwpoint, You dont see cruel language used in Blizzard or other well known game developer websites do you?
Try to be more professional, For a good game you need a small budget and at least the required amount of people to make something that will scare everyone in the ''world''
Good luck, You will need it

No we do not have all required resources, and, as of now, we are not ready to produce a game for retail. Right now we are just doing something that I've wanted to do for a while. You are right, we are not professional, and that is why we have not and will not pay for professionals. We are just making a game to as best we can (i know the team looks short...others have not yet approved of us putting their names up). The situation would be much different if we were trying to make a game for a profit, if that were the case, I would be sending the idea out to people seeing if they were interested. Am I? No. Will I? Probably not. Oh well, think what you will.
