Not too shabby! :) How about picking up some anatomy studies. You have a pretty good grasp already but I think it would serve you well to beef up your knowledge a bit. :teeth:

All right! There we go. Keep those anatomy studies going and keep drawing from life. Anatomy gives you the knowledge, but drawing from life teaches you how to apply that knowledge. :)

Nice last pic, shows improvement...
Concerning anatomy, you doing good to study it, but it seems that you are beginning in drawing , so let me give you a tip:
I first wanted to learn anatomy, thinking i'll can concept art later on ,
BUT i should have first learn to construct anything from box sphere and cylinder (means, lot of ref drawing), then, shapes, and then anatomy on top of this !!
Remember and observe that the shape of an arm is really only slightly off the cylinder. Doing too much anatomy lead to deformation !!

That only to help you train yourself the best as you can !

bye

great man! good job... i'll be waiting for ya! 8) and your studies... work on your pencil lines... try to give them a more consistent stroke... and start working the shades at the last! (after tha main lines have been drawn).. it will be easier and less confusing.

hey man good work here. im seeing some posts about where you should be with your life drawing and concept art.
a lot of poeple on this thread dont understand the connection between life drawing/figure anatomy and concept art. if you cant draw what is in front of your eyes, then how can you expect to draw it from memory/imagination?
i would say keep doing these anatomy studies out of the books and from life because when you do enough of these they inform the drawings you do from your imagination.

Hey... You've got quite a collection going on. Great stuff. My favorite is the samurais. Very well done. The samurai girl is awesome. But you do have to tighten up some of your pencils on the sketches. The life drawings are great. Keep it up. I'll be checking back. Later

I like the pictures where you seem to copy it from real photographs. Good work! Keep it up! Some of the faces may need some work though, like the one on your avatar.

Gringoloco - thx man. Yea I need to do more studies I know :)
evidence - Nice words thanks.
darkchild - I'm glad that you like 'em, thx
Quinster - Copying from photo's tend to get boring, but I do need to study faces more I agree, Im stil suffering from my anime period :P .

overall cool shit!

Yeah!!! Nekkid girls rule!! Great work on the 3rd pic. But on the last girl, the arm is too short. In that position the shoulder would come up considerably higher. Considering the hand was placed closed to the body and not towards the knee. Great mecha!!

hey, real nice stuff. the referenced pics look great! one advice, when you do a drawing using a ref, just after u finish it, put aside both your drawing and the ref pic and try to draw the same thing from memo. it will help improve ur visual library, i find it a lot help myself;)

keep up the great work:yayca:

hey, great perspective on the fan art. But I'm really intrigued by the demon princess. Any chance of doing that up in color?

My advice for a learning concept artist, is to first divide the discipline into multiple areas: props/vehichles, locations/environment/architecture and characters/creatures.

Each is a wildly different field which takes vast studies.

If you start off trying to concept everything at once, you will never improve your learning curve since your mind will be everywhere and nowhere, pick an area to first work on, then delve into its complexitiies until you master it, then move on.

Thats my advice.

Hi Magic Man,

I agree in terms of not trying everything at once, in order of trying to concentrate on some vision, or goal and not loosing "the path". But in general I think it depends on the person. I sometimes had good results by just doodling around without concentrating on some specific design. I think it also depends on what you intend to do and the amount of time you have at your disposal. I absolutely agree to you when you work on a project connected to a deadline, because in this case you'll benefit from having some kind of plan, i.e. you first do the vehicles and then move on to the creatures etc., so you won't get lost in sketching to much around. But I think the best way to become a good concept artist (or just a good artist) is to just keep things going, means to never stop drawing in the first place, just never give up, whatever vision or design you might have in mind, just try to do it (even without a plan).

cheers!

p.s.: saw your "draconian speeder". Cool design that is.

Darkchild: here's the colored version. Although something bothers me about it maybe I should've used a different colorscheme. I'm also really keen on painter 6.1 watercolor right now, it seems to fit me better than the smeary bristle from 9.0 I used here:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v12/sigma_atf/IceMoonvsKauserAli_TD.jpg

Magic Man and Yodaaaaah:
Thx for both your advice. Lately i've been focussing on characters, but environments also start to tickle. But first I want to become better at drawing the human form.

Here's something I did for my brother:

darkchild
August 18th, 2005, 07:23 PM
Wow that was quick! I like the watercolor but you're right about the scheme. I would've went with something darker in terms of color. Give this an overall "demon princess" feel to it. Background could be a fiery red with a a darker skin tone. Highlights of red would be added to the character to emphasize a more eery setting... MUHAHAHAHAHA...ahem...but I don't know what the function of this princess is so I'll leave the emotions up to you. You should give her eyes a more freaky look to them. Maybe cat slits or a different color. But an oversized pupil also looks freaky:) On another note, you got the shadows down well. The light source is clear. I really like the watch and chain. The head piece is awesome. Overall I think I'm just attracted to the design and concept of this particular character. Good work... On the sketch for your brother I love the design on the hat. Keep posting. Later!

Damn, that looks good. I like your choice of colors on this. The archetectural stuff in the background look totally cool. Kind of a Tenchu-like feel to it. The foreground ninja has a great expression of seriousness. The only thing that bothers me is the way the darkened figure is jumping. In a way it looks like he's sitting in midair. I know it's possible to pull your legs in after a jump but somehow to me it doesn't look right. The figure in the foreground has a great sense of movement compared to the other. Maybe I would've drawn one leg extended down a bit to give more movement to the character. But this is nitpicking on a great piece of work. Was this done in Painter? Keep up the great work, later!
