Fangs of Stone is a Darkplaces Q1 based stand alone game where every player is, of course: a gargoyle. Gargoyles are deadly menacing flying creatures here, not water spouts and statues.

Currently the project is going under a revival with new gameplay, same glitz. There'll be "normal" play, "elemental" play (as in, binding yourself to an element with special elemental crests or so for different attacks) and "classed-based" play where players can pick between two visually different teams (Gargoyles, and Demons) and fight it off CTF style. The new design document is in progress and is in early stages. It is also probably going to be a merging or so with a similar, but dead mod (http://mods.moddb.com/1234) for q3a.

With the two teams (Gargoyles and Demons), you could get away with doing a demon if gargoyles aren't your thing. All gargoyles and demons are "bare" in the sense of having no clothing or hair, so if you want any "cover" or so, have tattoos. Jewelry works too, but not in an excessive amount :P

Melee weapons are uncertain, but there is at least going to be claws. ;P

Oh, and not only concept is required but a model sheet too, so I could model it with it's proper porportion and features, n' stuff. I'm a modeler, skinner and the coder and leader for the project. :P Nudity is optional (yes, male nudity on a mythical creature, but that's up to you though, i'm not making you or stopping you, though i prefer nudity anyways (kinda sick of gargoyle castration))

Preferred media: pencil, ink or pen, or digital drawing/painting.

The reason why I came here, is because Neros and Warby (my previous concept artists) no longer have free time to draw or work, leaving me with no concept artist on my side, bringing me down here beggin' for help ;P

For personal communication, contact me by MSN (recommended, addy: cheapalert AT planetquake DAWT com), my gmail (cheapalert AT gmail DAWT com) or on my board (http://www.planetgargoyle.com/studio).

The current gallery can be seen here (http://mods.moddb.com/gallery/4793/).

Thanks, and good luck!

EDIT: Makkon is fired for laziness and immature hostility, and Warby has too much in real life so he had to quit, left with absolutely nobody now :(

EDIT 2: Reorganized, and some new media is around.

*last bump before I dies*

The concept artists I had are now gone :'(

Been doing some media of my own though, this is basically the engine used (real-time ingame render)

I'm an experienced Graphic Designer, currenty looking for another project to work on in my own time.

I used to work on PC games, before I got married and I had to get a better paid job to sustain my ever growing family!!

Now I find myself with spare time on my hands and an urge to dip my toe back into this field.

I am talented in this field, so I'm sure you won't be dissapointed - but alas have no portoflio to show. I'll do one concept and post it up in the next couple of days. :teeth:

This is just a quick sketch to give you a feel.

I thought I'd have one body 'type' for a few different gargoyles and a different body 'type' for another - like they are two species of gargoyles.

That way you could easily distinguish between the 'goodies' and 'badies'. Evil overlords versus humamoind gargoyle. That kind of slant.

So here is my doodle, please give me some feedback and I'll draw up half a dozen for each species for you to play with.

Erm.... appart from the fact that I can't attach anything, this post would have served a useful purpose, as it is I can't show anything!!!!

So how am I gonna show you this pic?

I'll put together a portfolio site on the web this weekend. It is only pennies to register a site and I can use my 250MB hosting to upload some folders. I'll drop you the link in the next couple of days.

I'm not a blagger, I'll post these up ASAP. I registered my domain on Friday, so will have a look at it tonight and just put a simple page together.

Speak tomorrow. Regards, PRIMEtarget ;)

I apologise for the quality of the site you are about to visit.

I have just thrown a quick site up, because the hosting I have arranged is not completely ready. So I have used the free webspace my ISP provides (GROAN! >:{ ).

http://www.concepts21.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/index.htm

That should take you to it.

I'll create a steady flow of these concepts if they're okay - they are loosening the old sketch pencil, and I'm enjoying myself.

Feel free to rubbish them if you like, and I'll take criticism on board. I'm a big boy now!

I like them :bashful:

- Good sketches though the images are HUGE. 300dpi scan? :P
- The light gargoyle seems to be missing a pelvis, and lower abs - that'd hurt
- Tipped tails aren't that common with gargoyles so i'll accept them anyway :P
- hahahaha, i love the 2nd pic how he's wanking his tail it looks like, LOL two fingers both sprouting from the middle wing joint.
- No penis? j/k ;)
- Most of Stone Fang's "art direction" is sort of "medium" porportioned rather than cartoonish/"cute" porportioned, for example, one of our concepts:
http://www.planetgargoyle.com/wbgargeh3.jpg (nudity warning)

Great stuff though, but it probably would make no sense giving crits in a request thread. Register here (http://www.planetgargoyle.com/studio) please and i'll give you internal team access and discuss the stuff there (with barely anything but ideas, docs and things but it beats having no direction at all)

Oh why doth thee dislike me so.

My drawings are a mirror of my soul - my very essence. I cannot understand anyone who would want to pull these works of art into pieces. I feel utterly betrayed by those who cast a shadow over my brilliance.

I've signed up for your bulletin board thingy on your web site.

Once I've taken your comments into consideration I'll try and do less cartoony drawings. I didn't want to go too realistic with too much detail because you want subtle variations of each character.

I'm not going to draw knobs on my characters - sorry if this is going to alter the dynamics of the characters. I don't think it appropriate to any game really. And besides I've never seen a Gargoyle's dick! :[

I'll sort out a new website soon and put a proper one together - with smaller pics !!

Thanks for signing up :D

Oh i forgot to mention one crit but it was butchered in the editing of my last post - the wings seem to have one finger! Usually we have 2 or 3 sprouting from one joint, it defines a gargoyle more like a gargoyle :P

I can't seem to adopt a style for my drawings for these Gragoyles. Like I said I am an old hand, but a newbie for concepts on games.

Give me some clues as I am trying to grasp the basics of what you would need to use the sketches usefully.

It's all in the name of research!!

Hehe hi again.

3- THIS GUY IS COOL! His feet is a bit odd though, on how they're blended with the shin
4- I like this guy as well, though he seems to lack arm joints (!)
5- I like this guy, he's rather ideal for an "animated statue" garg considering the edged slantness of his form.
6- very good, though the shoulders and chest make him look odd as well as the cat ears puts him on the borderline of "furry", heh.
7- it's good, the wings are wierd though (gargs wings usually don't be static down the back but more popping out from one limb). No hands?
8- haha, when i said gentialia i don't mean BIG AND ERECT, talk about being HORNY! heh lol. Good sketch though, I like the thin and schronyness of the garg but the left arm looks quite snapped.
9 - it's okay, the arms are too thin, the face is too long and the back/tail is all wierd and merged up heh
10. Hehe reminds me of a kangaroo! I like it though his wings lack limbs

If you haven't yet, check the "Drawings and Ideas recap list" on the site's forum for some ideas and things, and even some examples. :P

Overall, good stuff! Just needs to be a bit more muscle-defined and a bit more realistically porportioned, i.e. less small. A fine example of a well built garg is this:
http://www.planetgargoyle.com/fbstand.gif

I've also noticed most of the horned ones lack ears. Gargs are known for having long pointed ears :P

I'm still sketching when time allows.

Trying to get more muscle definition and a bit more life size and realism.

See what you think.

He looks bent up and stuff as if he had no joints :( good quality sketch though.

/me feels we should take it on MSN messenger (http://messenger.msn.com) or something instead of just posting in this thread :P

I haven't seen you in awhile primeTARGET, did you check the PMs (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/private.php?)?

Though other than that, i've made some guidelines for concepts now, to help you narrow down to what i like. :P

Cool.

I've glanced at them and they seem pretty comprehensive. This will give me a base around which to work up some new visuals.

I love drawing them, so I'll post up some more soon.

I'll have a good read at the website tonight. Going on hols next week, so should get some quality sketching time to draft a few more designs. I won't be able to post them up, but they will all come at once when I do.

SPEAK LATERZ.

Don't bother telling me about the flaws. I know, but it's still cool damn it. The texture was a pain in the ass.

I finally found a use for this comp I made a long long time ago. I thought I'd never figure out what to do with it. I have a fat drunk gargoil, but it's a bit map.

They Aren't Gargoyles If Their Wings Are Not Present :p

I think the porportions are a little wacked for even stonefang use. heh

oh and color and texture isn't necessary

Just bought a graphics tablet and am playing in Photoshop coz I'm just going through too many materials on BIG (Expensive) pads to try and get the proportions of those blessed wings.

Your patience is appreciated as I am still willing to offer my help with your project. Thanks.

\o/

I recommend messing about Painter however, if you haven't tried that yet, you should :D (it should come with the tablet)

Try to focus on the monstorous humanoid form first, then put the wings in last for basic shapes.

http://www.planetgargoyle.com/gargdump/new/ could provide some inspiration :P
