seeking sketchers, artists, entertainment design enthusiests for late-night coffee drawing sessions and weekends.
Jung Park (http://www.jpconceptart.com/) and I are trying to see the level of interest for personal tutorial/workshop sessions for anyone interested in environment paint and detailed linework.
We'll have flyers up soon at the local college and library.

when is this?
I'm coming downtown this Saturday for a SAIC workshop figure drawing, (free, they're for people thinking about applying for SAIC)
I live in the suburbs of chicago, 30 minutes away if you take the 290 :blahblah:
January 24th, 2005, 01:30 PM
I'm a new member to conceptart.org. One reason I joined was because I see that everyone here is serious and great in what they do. and that gets me motivated to become a better artist. I am really intersted in any workshop or sketchgroup that would enhance my skills. I live 10 minutes away from downtown Chicago.
January 24th, 2005, 11:03 PM
hey Sammy, my friend Lana lives in chicago with Max Bare from the Illustration dept at SCAD. and she'd going out with someone named Jarrett from the 3D depatrmant. Also their friend Zoki is there too. all from SCAD.
If you're interested I'll hook you up with contact info.
January 25th, 2005, 08:10 PM
Denart & sephone,
you're 30 min away from downtown? ... I'm still developing my cognitive map here... I'm in Roscoe Village, I donno how far that is from downtown... seems like a 10 min drive at the most to get into the heart of downtown.
shoot me an email at email@example.com if you're interested in hookin' up. Me and Jung will be able to figure out how we're going to work workshops and classes.
If you want, let me know the kinds of skills you're trying to get better at ... I've been wanting to work up some classes, but there hasn't been much interest for personal tutorials at the local art college.
January 29th, 2005, 08:50 AM
Hey whats up guys, Just saying hello n all. I'm from the chicago area too.
January 29th, 2005, 05:41 PM
Awesome, this sounds great! I'm currently in Lincoln Park (right down the street from the zoo. Nothing beats the fine aroma of fresh elephant crap on a hot summer's day. :dead: )
Please keep us updated and best of luck to you two in organizing this. If you need any help, let me know.
January 29th, 2005, 08:19 PM

January 31st, 2005, 01:27 PM
AWESOME MORE PEOPLE!!!
Any objections to meeting up this weekend at the Field Museum for some creature ref/sketchin'??! :yayca:
:blahblah: We can make it a weekly habit to get around to the different museums and doodle all over the place.
And for those still interested in building their personal portfolios, Jung and I will discuss personal workshop classes there. We don't plan on charging very much so whoever needs some extra help/tutoring can get some. But be prepared, 'cause if you want to join up we'll be dishing out some weekly homework and spilling the beans on everything we know of :blah:
(so if interested, bring your work so you can tell us what you're looking to improve upon and how computer litterate you are since workshops will be 80% digital)
Other than that, lets plan on sketchbook sketching this Saturday morning at the Field Museum : P
January 31st, 2005, 05:13 PM
Well Hey just to let ya all know that I've talked with Sammy and told him that I'm coming Saturday to the Field Museum. Don't know if its final but Saturday at 10:00 am is what we've talked about.
I hope that the rest of you guys will come up to the city, I'm totally excited bout this, and can't wait to see what everyone will bring to the table.
Here's the admissions pricing on certain packages. Dunno how much we will be spending but heres an idea. I think it will be much cheaper though with a basic pass purchase. I don't think they show it here though.

Thanx for the museum info Kresimir,
10 am Field Museum sketch'a'thon ... The Field Museum is a great place to do some ref, considering that the animals have been long dead and don't move.
February 2nd, 2005, 10:27 AM
um is anyone still coming?
February 2nd, 2005, 01:14 PM
change of time: 1:00 pm Field Museum
10 am might be a little early for some... I know Jung wants to sleep : D
It's an unformal get-together, just runnin' up to whateaver interests you in the museum and doodling ... I'm there for creatures : P
February 4th, 2005, 12:16 AM
:yayca: I'm still down for the trip and I spoke with Citizen X yesterday. He's down for the ride as well. I just had one question, Are we meeting anywhere in particular or just be there at the front entrance at 1:00pm? Okay that was technically two questions. But let me know what the deal is.
February 4th, 2005, 01:00 PM
Yep, just meet at the front steps (I actually think they're under construction and you have to go to the back steps, but either way "steps in front of door")
at 1:00 I'll be there with my gf, probobly doodling on the steps ... I donno if Jung will be going, but he plans on meeting at the steps to meet up with you guys.
The field museum is great to doodle at, there's always that snack bar at the bottom to meet up at when we get separated.... After that we can go somewhere and get some food.
February 6th, 2005, 12:36 AM
Hey i forgot to ask you about that white pen you where using in your sketch book. What kinda pen is it??
February 6th, 2005, 01:25 PM
It's Jose, I had a real good time hanging out with everyone. I hope to see everyone again real soon. Well here is the info I was telling you about. I haven't had a chance to go to their figure drawing classes just yet. So I can't really tell ya how it is, but I listed the number just in case you have any questions. You could talk to Robin Rios. She's one of the owners and an old friend from school (Illinios Institute of Art). She's real cool. I have been to their gallery and they do have a nice big space. Let me know how it went.
The life drawing session is today Sunday the 6th from 4-7pm. itís $10 at the door and there is a model.

February 17th, 2005, 05:34 PM
:yayca: Hey guys sorry I didn't make it this past week. But if you guys are interested in getting together this weekend. I think there is going to be a figure drawing session this sunday. Sammy, whatever happened with the workshop???
February 19th, 2005, 10:50 PM
Hey guys, I'm visiting Chicago tomorrow, and odds are with the group I'm with, there won't be a lot of room for meeting up with CAer's, but I was wondering if there's any must-see sites, or if there's any schools open.
I'm gonna go hang out around the American Academy of Art, one of the schools I'm gonna be applying for transfer to in the next few weeks. This was kinda a spur of the moment decision to even go to chicago. My brother and I are in South Bend Indiana, visiting my other brother who's a first year PhD. Student at Notre Dame, studying sociology.
We were thinking of going up on saturday (today, 2/19) but sunday ended up being the better plan.
Anyway, lemme know if you've got any ideas. I wish I could meet up with some people, especially for a figure drawing session, but this was kinda a poorly planned-out trip.
February 23rd, 2005, 05:30 PM
I'm just wondering if anyone wants to get together this weekend, sunday maybe??? PaulGanguly, It would have been cool to have me you. Sorry for not having any info for you, but I hope you had a good time in Chicago anyways.
March 3rd, 2005, 11:51 AM
Hey all, chicago was cool, although we spent almost the ENTIRE day in Ikea, in Schaumberg.
Ever been there? Has to be a reeeally rich part of Illinois. There's nothing but high end chains, and mammoth office high-rises.
Oh yeah, and we ate at Gino's East. Damn fine pizza, but I' m from NYS, so it's not hard to find good pizza around my house.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get to the school as planned, and I'm still really dying to get some information on it.
There has got to be SOMEONE who knows something about the school.
I'd really like to get some feedback, so if anyone can gimme something, like a friend of some chicago students, my email's firstname.lastname@example.org, if they're not forum members.
This school's so hard to find information on, I'm beginning to have my doubts.
August 19th, 2005, 08:33 AM
Damn, just noticed this thread today... Sorry I missed it. I hope there will be more of these Chicago/Burbs, sessions in the future. I work in the game "industry" and know some talented artists that might be interested as well.
August 22nd, 2005, 01:21 PM
I'm up for a meet on weekends sometime... anyone interested in getting a group up and going again?
August 27th, 2005, 09:29 PM
I'd be interested in a sketchgroup in Chicago.
August 31st, 2005, 02:35 AM
Im down. I live in Lombard, 35 minutes from the city, if anyone plans this thing post it in here yeah.
August 31st, 2005, 06:15 PM
I'm in Westchester right now Ferst, like 15 minutes from you. If we could get a group of suburbanites together...
edit: Badass website btw, great work man. Get to posting!
August 31st, 2005, 09:55 PM
Count me in... I work in Glen Ellyn, not to far from Lombard, but I would be willing to travel a bit if need be. The Schaumburg Art Institute used to allow High Voltage employees to come in and do life drawing. We would all pool in to pay for the model. I am sure something like that could still be set up. It's been a few years though. Really I am up for anything I just want to get drawin'.
August 31st, 2005, 11:42 PM
Cool, so someone come up with a plan. Im down for getting together on the weekends, maybe we could check out the field museum, or some other place in the burbs, or a life drawing class, or hang out in a crowded place like cod or somewhere and draw.
Not this weekend though, going out of town, but we should set sumthin up for the 10th or 11th.
September 1st, 2005, 12:54 PM
I'm up for anything... I'll be out of town the week of the 10th and 11th, but after that I'll be around for good. I'd be up for certain weeknights after 7pm or something sketching over some drinks or something too...
September 3rd, 2005, 12:52 AM
I live in the city, but work in Des Plaines. I'm free after 7pm weeknights and all weekend usually.
September 3rd, 2005, 01:05 PM
I am also pretty busy with crunch time right now, and have a vegas trade show coming up from the 14th through the 16th. Maybe we could try for the weekend of the 17th and 18th. Personaly I would like to get a regular life drawing thing going but it may take some time to get it all set up, but if anyone is interested I can try to get the ball rolling. I also wouldn't mind going to the Field Museum or Brookfield zoo.
September 4th, 2005, 11:21 PM
Hello, fellow Chicagoians. I was walking down the street and saw this. It's not concept art, but it should be cool. It's an art fest here in the Belmont area.
Sorry for the link. I can't get the image to appear.
/has the html skills of a 3-yr. old
September 6th, 2005, 03:47 PM
Life drawing is always nice... if you know of a place we could do this I'm all ears man. Like I said, I'm up for anything...
September 14th, 2005, 01:46 PM
well Im busy like everyweekend till october something, if anyone is getting a list together Id like to be on it. Im thinking of starting this off but will prolly mess it up or something, so if anyones taking charge let me know.
October 3rd, 2005, 04:04 PM
Hi group. New guy on the block here! I'm a figure/life drawing model and stumbled across this forum while searching for a few new gigs.
I've been working in the south and southwest burbs, but realized I need to expand into the city if I'm going to find more work. If any of you have any pointers to classes or open studios I'd be indebted. I know about P&C already.
On another note, I see you as a group are looking to do some drawing. Have you got to a point where you looking for a model? My fee is sliding and is usually a little more for a school or open studio and a little less for small informal groups, and/or students. I've had a few good paying jobs lately so I have a few low/no fee ones to give out. Kind of a karma thing for me I suppose. I get some leads and somebody gets an experienced model. I can forward my resume to anyone thats interested.
About my experience... I'm 48 yrs old and have been modeling off and on since I was 19. I've modeled for classes, open studios, and workshops... for drawing, painting, sculpture and most recently for photo/digital art. I've modeled indoors and outdoors (outdoors when I was in California, where people don't freak on seeing a group of artists with a nude model.) Until recently I had a female partner that would model with me... alas she has moved to New Mexico so I'm solo now.
Thanks for the listen,
January 22nd, 2006, 05:05 PM
Yo guys, seems like chicago is dead. Anyone around here still intrested in getting together? I don't anyone who's in artists besides somepoeple who draw on pumpkins or draw shrooms all day. Plz im going insane here.
January 23rd, 2006, 09:13 AM
Major Tom to ground control??.......
January 23rd, 2006, 06:28 PM
I'm down Kresh, I usually have a busy ass schedule going though. It's kind of hard to get a drawing crew assembled around here though... got any ideas for meetup places?
January 23rd, 2006, 07:23 PM
yeah i got your pm. well that makes 2. It doesnt have to be a regular thing maybe like an every other week deal. I guess the location depends on where everyone is living at. Im out here in Skokie about 15 minutes from downtown. The city maybe too much of a hassle and expensive for some people. I havent been there much but Evanston is kinda artsy fartsy I dunno if they got any cool places to drink though.
January 23rd, 2006, 11:35 PM
Well right now I'm working north of you in Northbrook, but I live south in Westchester. Either way I'm going to be doing some driving, so I'm cool with that. I get off of work around 6pm sually, so I can meet up for a drink or seven and some sketching every once in a while. Any good places in Skokie near I-90?
January 24th, 2006, 09:41 PM
Im still up for doing some sketch sessions, Just waiting for someone to come up with a plan. Someone set some times, places, or something.
January 24th, 2006, 09:50 PM
chicago aint dead! NAY!
I'm down for some session in the summer! Im at ohio now (CCAD) in college.....
January 24th, 2006, 09:56 PM
Sweet... yo ferst, you still out in Lombard? We should try and find a central location, or fuck it... we can just meet somewhere downtown. I hate setting these fuckers up. Anyone have any favorite bars/hangout spots between Lombard and Skokie? Downtown?
January 25th, 2006, 02:22 AM
yeah im in lombard, If someone can just set a place and time, I will try to get there, weekends are best for me.
February 5th, 2006, 02:19 PM
hay, whats up? I'm another artist in the Chicago area. I wanna know when you guys are going to start those sketch sessions.
February 6th, 2006, 11:47 AM
There's the Palette and Chisel (http://www.paletteandchisel.org/p%26c/p%26c_openstudio.htm) studio that has open studio sessions with models that might be cool. The page I linked to has the schedule listed on it... I think it's about 10 bucks per session, not too bad.
Either that, or we meet up in the burbs somewhere for some sketching and drinking. I'm up for either... I definitely am going to start going down to the Palette and Chisel unless you guys know a better studio around here.
Thursday night Multimedia Long pose from 7:00pm to 10:00pm and the Saturday morning studio (I'm going to be out of town this weekend though) are good matches for my schedule.
Either way, we need to get off our asses and fucking draw somewhere. For serious.
February 11th, 2006, 06:11 PM
Saturday is good day for me to head downtown. Just let me know the day and I be there.
February 28th, 2006, 01:23 AM
If we could organize some sort of meet up thing for a weekend I think it'd be a blast. I'd love to drive up from STL and stay a couple nights. I'd need a place to crash, of course. But I'd really love to get some inspiration! Lemme kno!
March 29th, 2006, 10:34 PM
I'd be down too... My sister lives in the Chigago area. Maybe we could hitch a ride together Zebs?
March 29th, 2006, 11:06 PM
Yup! Sounds very good to me.
April 27th, 2006, 11:41 AM
BUMP!!!!! okay the weather is starting to get nice! Chicago needs to unite!

Chicago here. North side, in the city. Just joined on here. I've much to learn, so practice with my betters would always help.
June 16th, 2006, 03:25 PM
Hoffman Estates here, but I'd be cool with hitting the city if a group still wants to exist.
Otherwise I'd be interested in starting one up for North West suburbs.
June 26th, 2006, 03:33 PM

I thought this group was dead! I'm interested in meeting local CAers for a sketch group or whatever. Let us network, suckas. Ima keep an eye out from now on.
September 3rd, 2006, 10:42 PM
Humboldt Park in this muthafu...er, yea, I'm in Chicago as well. I don't drink caffinated beverages, but I'd be more than happy to hang with like minded artistes.
September 19th, 2006, 01:23 AM
Hey folks, looks like this group is not TOO busy at the moment. I've scheduled a meetup at the Schaumburg Public Library on Sunday, November 5th, 7pm-9pm. Everyone here is encouraged to come out if you can make it. I'm going to bug a local pro artist/teacher that's been working in 3D and CG for a while to get in on the first meetup.
Let me know if you Chicago City people have transportation issues. I think there might be some public transportation option available, for example Metra to Schaumburg. I could give a few people a lift from the station and back.
If we get enough people together we can make this a monthly meetup occuring on the first Sunday of each month.
September 19th, 2006, 09:42 AM
now that imo, is what we need. thanks thaelys!
September 19th, 2006, 03:38 PM
I went out there once and only once for the Millionaire auditions at Medieval Times. Oh good gravy, I never wanna go back...
Well, on second thought, this could be good for me. I'll try and make it work.
September 19th, 2006, 03:55 PM
Hehe, Schaumburg is a repulsive town, unless you're a sterile businessman or a bored housewife with a compulsive spending disorder.
Regardless, it's a fairly centralized location - it's easy to get to whether you're from the Western, Northern, Northwestern suburbs or Chicago proper.
If the first meetup is a success I'm open to other venues. The challenge there is finding a space that can host around 20 people armed with laptops and sketchbooks.
September 19th, 2006, 04:13 PM
This sounds interesting, and I am not to far from Schaumburg. Is there going to be a specific topic or activity?
September 19th, 2006, 04:35 PM
Actually it's a bit freeform for now, but i'd like our meetups to offer the following:
1. Time for some sketchgroup work.
2. Participants pick out one pro artist's work or a production tool or technique that you find interesting, and speak about it for a few minutes. I will attempt to provide a digital projector for us. This is more of a contemporary short survey of new stuff. Like "Hey, game X released last month, check this screenshot out.", "Here's how I made this brush in Painter".
3. Introduce a "subject of the month" project that we can get our group working on. Output will be reviewed and crit'ed at the following meetup.Think "CHOW".
4. Have at least one local industry person present to talk about their experience and offer some advice.
I've sent out an invite to a local guy, see #4.
The format of this meetup will resemble the feel of conceptart.org, the only difference is it's in-person. Our first meetup will probably set the tone for the subsequent ones. So if everyone in the group is hot on game art, we'll be putting emphasis on that realm. Let's see how it goes.
September 19th, 2006, 07:24 PM
Well, I signed up on that website of yours, so I'll try and go get some materials and make it. Never been to anything like this so, but I hope it's a h00tenanny!
September 19th, 2006, 07:30 PM
I hope it's a success and ends up being time well spent.
October 7th, 2006, 09:43 PM
Just a reminder that we have about 6 people now for the meetup. Once again this is at the Schaumburg Library, November 5th, 7-9pm.
Our tentative guest will be a fellah named George who works here in Chicago on various 2D and 3D animation projects, as well as having taught 3D at a couple of schools here. George is currently working on an animated collaboration as a watercolor background artist.
To join the list, click here (http://groupart.meetup.com/6/?gj=sj8)
Looking forward to meeting some of the folks on this board. Cheers.
October 26th, 2006, 06:07 PM
Chi-towners: We're a little over a week away from the meetup. If you're in Chicago and you'd like to get together with some other local CA.org board denizens and Chi-town artists, mark November 5th on your calendar. Again, it's at the Schaumburg Library in Shaumburg, Illinois which is about 15 miles Northwest of the city. 7pm-9pm.
click on the link above to find out more. Cheers.
March 2nd, 2007, 12:31 AM
If anybody's still interested in a sketch group or something Im around the north side.

My husband and I are moving to Chicago in the next month or so and I would love to attend one of these sketch groups. :D That is if it starts up again... o.O

I'm game for a sketchgroup. I live on the northside of the city and go to school at the American Academy of Art downtown. Weather's getting warmer, time to start organizing.

Hey how is that school? I went in for an interview but didnt go back for the second part.
April 3rd, 2007, 11:33 AM
The school is big on the fundamentals. A lot of drawing. I started back in January, and I rather enjoy it.

So much for the weather getting warmer. Well i hope you folks are still on board. So... are we waiting for spring to actually begin?

I was thinking about trying to get a schaumburg area group together for sketching some weekend when the weather was gonna be nice.
April 30th, 2007, 10:41 AM
Ready when you all are.
April 30th, 2007, 03:28 PM
a-okay. what's everybody up to two saturdays from now? lord dubu, somewhere in schaumburg would be cool!!
May 1st, 2007, 11:22 AM
Hey guys one more from Schaumburg here, if a group gets a meeting going I will work on getting there.
May 1st, 2007, 07:16 PM
2 Saturdays from now as in May 12th. Sounds feasible. What time/where? I'd be willing to give people from the city a ride if it's in Schauburg.

oh yeah! anime central is that weekend! i was gonna go looking for artbooks(as usual) friday may eleventh, or saturday the 12th. we could go meet there? just a suggestion...I'm into design/art/ mecha stuff and not at all into the fanboy crud that goes on at such things (including pocky), so you wouldn't be alone, and it could be quick--then to a borders or starbucks or mitsuwa for japanese food or for some sketching/ stuff? any other ideas?
May 2nd, 2007, 07:13 PM
Dont know if i can make it that day. Ill probably have a family thing that weekend, not sure what day exactly.
May 15th, 2007, 01:43 PM
con was okay. not too many artbooks (at least good ones that is;( ) but what're you doing this weekend?
May 16th, 2007, 05:51 PM
Friday or Saturday sounds good as of now.
May 18th, 2007, 12:29 PM
Probably not then? Ill probably be free whenever you guys want to do this.
June 1st, 2007, 01:16 AM
Wake up, Chicago or the suburbs or wherever, I'm in evanston but ill find my way to the live spot. Come on brothers and sisters, lets get together and build.
June 24th, 2007, 09:00 PM
umm I live in skokie, about a farts sniff away from evanston
January 10th, 2012, 04:47 PM
OK. I'm going to try brush the dust off this thing. I NEED to find some local art nerds to hang out with.
So, suburbanite artists: I'm thinking a regular lunch time sketch group where Arlington Hts meets Rolling Meadows. There's a Caribou at Golf and Algonquin that is usually thin enough in crowd that it could accommodate a small group.
January 10th, 2012, 05:20 PM
from mount prospect. dang. lord dubu i saw you were looking for a lunchtime group---i work too far away. hopefully (maybe) other times...
January 10th, 2012, 06:52 PM
Mt. Prospect isn't that far from Golf and Algonquin is it?
January 10th, 2012, 06:57 PM
not at all man--maybe ten minute drive in traffic?
January 11th, 2012, 10:51 AM
Oh you mean you don't work in Mt. Prospect... just live there then.
January 13th, 2012, 12:43 AM
yeah just live there...it'd be cool to just meet other like minded individuals...eh?
