ok i arrived to san fran at 2:50 after taking the bart from Oakland. today has been an adventure and i have seen so much already. currently it is 236 am Day 1 of the workshop and it has been a crazy day already, full of memorable experiences.
so i get to the triton and Maus, a watts kid had reserved the room and would not be getting in till 930pm so i was SOL for getting into my room and dropping my heavy bag. so i talk to the amazingly gay consierge (who has a thing for phil holland) and i set it up so i can store my bag in the bell room. i run into a whole crew of ringling guys who were pretty kool but being too burned out from the flight and walking the streets of san fran i just introduced myself then asking to see their open sketch books(from what i saw they were pretty good, so their million dollars a semester must be paying off.) so i ask directions to terra and give Insane visions a call. he said the whole crew was hanging out and to come on by. so as i start to walk down the street phil holland pulls up after driving like a demon from LA and made his trip in 5.5 hours. so we both head down to the terra to find all of the guys hanging out. RON LEMEN, MARKO, ANDROID, MANLEY, MOLLY, BRYAN, HPX, NOX, OBLIO, WES9000, CORO were all hanging out and setting up. so we all hung out and set up the place. let me tell you this place is insane.
AUSTIN was killer(and not just the heat) but SAN FRAN is 3x the size. They have a 60' projection screen and 4 stations for digital presentations down stairs with a table for the CORO demonstration and a space to see some bad ass sculpting like we saw in san fran. this is not like austin where there were all different rooms its all in one place perfect for seeing everything at once. i swear later today i will be on over load. after hours of helping set up and hanging out and chatting with the pros(always a treat to hang out on a friends level) Jon FOSTER shows up and was very kool(i had met him up at the SD comic con) but today it was a mellow meeting so we could all just chat and hear about his latest italian experiences. i wanted to compliment on the KING KONG piece but i think i will save the fan boy shit for tomorrow.
so then it was basically all set up so i headed back with phil holland to the Triton and went to see what was going on in the lobby. well it was dead so we head on over to explore the galleria and guess what we found.... the seattle crew was in full force with all of the triton people all hanging out in the lobby. there were like 30 people all doing a thunderdome (zombie jesus and robotic buddah were some of the topics) groovermcnabb Intern, fukino, artkitty and many more were all hanging out showing their work and just chilling. being dinner time we head to china town in a group of 7 or so and end up at 10pm basically at the dennys of asian food. we even had a bum as a guide for 45 cents in loose change.
i swear san fran is a trip. after dinner we head back maus finally arrived at 1030 and we ran into prostate sunrise and saphire and we decided to go look for a nice drinking spot. i sear at 11 or so all the bars closed down and ever 7-11(and we went to at least 4) does not carry any kind of liquor but all were helpful in driecting us to a possible liqur store. i swear we covered 90 city blocks hittin up bums directions giving 28 cents and some cigarettes for clues to the whereabouts of the only open liquor store in town. now we all after a long flight wanted to celebrate the insane things to come so it became our mission. well we finally found one bum who promised us an open shop but with the warning not to stop for anyone in that neighborhood cause around 2 it is not a place anyone should be.
i thought the crack head and the drunk on the final night in austin was crazy but i swear this was bad. the tenderloindistrict is hardcore. even marko or andrew might have a hard time down there. everyone there was a crack head. so we enter the store with cops out side and buy a bottle quickly. the only real name brand alch was 151 which was hardcore stuff. we coul have gotten a liter of giblys vodka for 3.99 but we decided it was a safer (and faster buzz) with the 151. as soon as we walk out there are customers tring to attack bums, hommies trying to sell us greatful dead cds (i expected tupac music from this type of guy but the guy said he was a dead head and a probably just still a crack head) we fled the scene before we could get caught up in the mess. then we returned to the galleria and took a shot to toast the workshop and also to thank god we weren't mugged. now we are sitting here mcnabb, prostate and I drawing and laughing at all the shit that has happened already and the workshop has not even started yet. actually it starts in 6 and a half hours and i cant wait...
