hi i got one quite stupid question. as i like to draw into sketchbooks, i wonder whether to draw on both sides of a page. i usually do so, but as i scanned some sketches recently i got this nice see-through effect, which i hate so much. on the other hand i dont wanna "waste" half of the book, just because i might sometime want to scan some pages (if ever). so my question to you: how do you do it? both sides or do you leave one blank? or do you buy only thick paper (i usually only have cheap 100g/m2 - yes, i live in a metric coutry an' sorry i dont know what this is in ounces/squaremiles or whatever you measure this in..)?

thanks

i do both.if i can get away with it, i'll try to bust a double sided color page. this deends on whats on the sides, and how well they compliment eachother. black and white pages i almost always draw on both sides. i like to have as dense of a book as possible. they last longer, and i think the end result is more intense. the images showing through is a bitch, but try using a color copier or xerox machine instead of a scanner. i find this relieves it a bit.-c36

coro, do you use any hair spray or fixative to prevent your pages from smudging each other?
I had the problem that pages start to crimp when sprayed, even with rather thick papers.

Hi,there is one thing you can do:after you skanned
your piece,go in PhotoShop and then open Image>adjust>
Levels,or CTRL+L,orCTRL+M(Curves)thats what I do,no metter
if there is something on the other side of paper, this steps helps me to clean main stuff that I want to color,or just
to have my finished pencils(or sketches)in my PC.
Best Luck!

@loga4

yes, i know about the curves-thingy, but problem is i mostly sketch with a pencil and if i adjust the pic, so i cant see the backside through no more, i also loose the midtones of my pencil sketch ...

is there any way around this prob, or is it just me being stupid?

thanks,

sven

When scanning try to put a sheet of black cardboard behind the page you're scanning. The other side wn't show through that much. This also works when scanning stuff from magazines.

depends on what materials i used on the previous page. watercolors or pigment ink... no drawing on the other side of the page. scanning with a black cardboard works good for me in most cases though.

Well, you must experiment with Levels and Curves, maybe
and brightnes/contrast,but you are right, in most events
your work become more black:D That I don`t mind in my case:)
Good thing is this trick with black cardboard,or you can just
one thing to try:do it ``by hand`` with eraser in PHShop, after you scanned your piece:))
Best Luck!
