I've searched the Forum for opinions of the Wacom tablets and I'm interested in purchasing one. CompUsa is selling the Graphire 2 for $100, but there is a $20 rebate which ends today. I'm very new to the idea of digital art, and I'm considering making a career move into the art field. Is the 4x5 Graphire a decent choice for a NOOB like myself? I uderstand that its much smaller that the ones professionals use, but does this mean it is more difficult to do detail work? Also, is the 500 levels of pressure enough? I know that it won't read angled strokes, and I'm OK with that. Any suggestions?
Any responses within the next 8 hours would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have a graphire2. Its a good tool, but its mostly for beginners. IF you can, Id go for an Intuos2, but if taht is a big investment for you, you can go with the Graphire2 and still be happy.. If you really think youll use it, go for it. I bought mine and havent really used it alot yet. I wanted to dive into painter, but im finding it hard to learn, so im taking my time getting around to it. Its still a very cool tool if you want to do sketches straight onto the computer. If I had to go back, I may have waited a bit before I got one, when i was sure I would NEED it.. you may want to give yourself a little bit of time to decide if you want to buy it..
You can get them for $85 FREE shipping from www.newegg.com, which is only $5 more, plus you dont have to wait for the rebate to come back (if it ever does!)
So all in all, if you know that you NEED it. Go for it. Unless you can afford more, then get a better model.

I chose the Intuos2 because it has some helpful features the Graphire has not. Check out http://www.wacom.com for the Intuos2 features - I think they're worth it.

I lost the installation cd for the intuos2 and had to reformat my drive, and now I cant get it to work. None of the update drivers are working. I emailed the company to see if they can send me another one, but I haven't heard a response for like a week. Is there anything I might need to download to get it to work; I mean is there something on the cd that isn't available to download that I would need to get it to work? I mean, the light isn't even on except when it boots up. Can someone help me? Or if anything direct me to where i can get what i need to get this to work? On the properties is says the hardware drivers aren't installed and or aren't specified or something like that. MAybe someone could burn me a copy of their cd, that would help too. anything is great. thanks.

I got the CD right here, the main driver is like 9 MB or so...
perhaps somebody has access to webspace which is big enough (jason?) or I can send it to you via ICQ?
my UIN is 105034171 if you are interested. I'm "invisible", just talk to me :)

hmm, unfortunately, i'm not familiar with icq. I don't think i even have it. And also, i have a 56 k connection, so it would take some time, though I'd be willing. I don't think it's small enough to fit in email, so I can't think of any other solutions. The only thing i have is AIM. So if you want to contact me, my call sign (lol) is gr8won9803. Thanks for the help man.
