View Full Version : Workshop BADGES!
I.was.ink
December 27th, 2004, 09:51 PM
I'm making a new thread, cuz some might not see my badge idea in the sticker thread(or that's what I'm calling it for now) Linkage (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=35808)
Basically, we need a way to identify ourselves at the workshop and we all recognize each others avatars so why not do something about it. The idea of stickers came up in the other thread but eventually those will fall off. So I thought about using badges, that'll work! So here's what I've done.
Stickers are a great idea but there's not guarantee they'll stay on your shirt. But you know what does stay on.....BADGES!
I've made em before. All you have to do is make one in PS,take it to Kinkos and laminate that sucker for like 75 cents( or something cheap like that).
I'm using my old avatar(that I've now changed back to) which Andrew did of me at the comic con 2 years ago.
http://www.visiblesurface.com/iwasink/iwasinkbadge.jpg
If you guys want to make em, make sure you don't exceed 2.5" x 3.5" because the little plastic thing you laminate is just about that size.
If we all make badges there's no way that sucker will fall off or fall apart like a sticker would.... and what better way to identify yourself than with your own avatar. It's a win-win situation here people! :yayca:
So who else is making one? (or am I going to be the only loser walking around with a badge?)

When I've made them before, I just punched a round hole in the top of the badge, went to a hardware store and bought a round key ring, threaded the keyring through the hole and looped some string around it to wear around my neck. Works pretty well if you don't want to make something that pins on to you.
If you do that though, you might want to make your badge two sided, as it tends to flip around a lot. :)

heh, this is a cool idea. i was gonna print out my avatar onto a stciker anyway.
only thing is i dont have a kinkos here, dunno where i could go to get mine laminated
i might just make a 'poor mans badge', and print out mine onto some card, poke a hole through the top and chuck some srting around it ^-^

Sweet, Fox!
I dunno if they allow public access, but Cardiff University Library (http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/schoolsanddivisions/divisions/insrv/libraryservices/graphicservices/index.html) does laminating.
Not sure how close to London you are but there are bunch of links here (http://www.chb.com/product-56.html)
If you're outgoing enough, you might hit up this hotel (http://www.milford.co.uk/hotels/cardiff-angel-hotel.html) which apparently has some office services which include laminating.
I dunno, I just did a google search for "laminating cardiff"

Good idea. Only issue I see, is with people that change their avatar alot...like me. :P
Would they really make a stink at the airport over a badge pin? Watch out!!! I might remove a splinter!!!

What a great idea. I've been wondering how long it'd take to put people's screen names and faces together Hey I find myself at Kinkos WAY more often than I'd like...so if anyone is having trouble getting things laminated I'd be happy to help. I'll probably be going Mon or Tues of next week.

Retep: Thanks!
Re:sizes: I set mine up to the dimensions of 2" x 3.5" (standard us business card size) and the ppi set to 300. I already laminated mine (at kinkos) and it filled the space nicely (lamination pouch size for the hang tags with the hole at the top). Any smaller size that you set one up for though, you can still laminate it and then punch a hole in the non-paper laminated part. Several different proportioned badges are posted here--that's part of the fun of it. :)
make yours a dodecahedron or something.
