Ok, right now im trying to improve on the basics, so i decided to study a lot of Still Life Drawing Techniques, Im using several books, the one I use most is one from Barrington Barber, the idea here is to study real life objects, specially textures and shading...

http://www.arcthurus.com/ca/warmingup.jpg

ok.. first things first.... the usual warm up, I really recomend this to everyone

After that, I tried to look at some basic shapes with very diferent textures:

http://www.arcthurus.com/ca/textura1.jpg

I tried to just see the basic texture, no reflections etc... conclusion here: objects with textured surfaces have less tonal difference.

Here is another example but with a shine surface:

http://www.arcthurus.com/ca/cubiertos.jpg

The shape here is horrible :$ , but anyway, i didnt wanted to spend a lot of time correcting the shape.... big buuuuuu for me....

Here are another 2 examples of texture:

http://www.arcthurus.com/ca/silk.jpg

http://www.arcthurus.com/ca/shirttexture.jpg

What I tried to do here is that make the illusion of diferent materials, for that I use a lot of tonal difference in "hard" textiles and a more uninform tonal diference in soft textiles like velvet...

Well this is it for now, comments and critics are welcome...

C U Soon :teeth:

hehehe que pex arturo !!!
asi que te animaste ehhh?? me da mucho gusto
mmm creo que puedes corregir un poco la tecnica de etching
o achurado, checa los apuntes de killing people al final de su thread
aqui esta la direccion:
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=34479
osea life drawing ok?

y tambien cuando te sientas comodo alterna con dibujos de tu imaginacion
para que apliques lo que estas aprendiendo

mucha suerte y feliz navida ! y año nuevo !!!

Hi everyone,

IanE Thanx a lot for the comments... sure Ill keep posting.

Ok, now, the next sketches:

This one is also a study of reflections of light in diferent materials, first the shape ( again awful) and the main tonal areas:

http://www.arcthurus.com/ca/zapato1.jpg

then, make all the tone values:

http://www.arcthurus.com/ca/zapato2.jpg

The result is so so, again the shape has a lot of errors, also the rendering could be more fine, but the main porpouse of the excercise was to see the main tonal areas and its shape acording to the curves of the figure...

Now this is another good excercise... drawing a paper sheet folded:

http://www.arcthurus.com/ca/papel.jpg

This is good to learn to identify tonal areas, also its good to practice this because many times my paper drawings looks like textiles and viceversa.....

Finally this one, a quick (very very quick) drawing of a wine glass, as an analysis for transparent materials....

http://www.arcthurus.com/ca/copa.jpg

Thats all for now, ill post as soon as I get something new, im starting a drawing today but it maybe takes me a day or two, so lets c....

Comments and critics are more than welcome.

Take care.

Hi everyone,

Im sorry I havent post anything in like a week :nohope: , i´veen working on several things and I didnt have a chance to upload stuff as ofthen as I wish to, but anyway, here are some recent scans from this week....

Some days ago I find some Manilla paper (medium toned paper) like in 1dll for 100 sheets, so I bought some for quick sketches, here is a warmup in toned paper...

http://www.arcthurus.com/ca/toned1.jpg

I just used 1 color, black, withe and the paper tone.

The next 2 are studies for materials, wood and steel with light:

http://www.arcthurus.com/ca/steellamp.jpg

http://www.arcthurus.com/ca/woodbox.jpg

Again, the conclusions are WATCH for the tonal difference, bright materials are equal to very contrasted tonal values.

This ones over here where from a reunion with some friends (http://www.elfonia.com) we get together every monday, so I try to sketch during this monday, the easiest one to do was the one with the half drunk half sleep guy, because he wasnt moving, the body position is very strange, he was like melted in a sofa, i try to capture that...

http://www.arcthurus.com/ca/humanstudy2.jpg

http://www.arcthurus.com/ca/humanstudy3.jpg

http://www.arcthurus.com/ca/humanstudy4.jpg

And finally, this one, again excercise with pencil, 4H HB and 2B, I got the idea from a drawing I saw in deviant art a while ago (so, its no my original idea), I like a lot the final result.

Well, this is everything for now, I promise I will upload stuff more ofthen...

Comments and critics are welcome,

Take Care!

Hi Everyone,

Here are some new sketches and stuff,

First this one, only pencil, kind of a warm up:

http://www.arcthurus.com/ca/loft.jpg

I was trying to make the whole picture whit the less number of lines possible..

The next ones are some sketches I have been doing with Acrylics, there are all in heavy paper, not canvass (for sketches, canvass would be very expenssive), so im not always able to use acrylics thined in wather and stuff, also no texture, just studies of colors and light...

First attempt:

http://www.arcthurus.com/ca/face1.jpg

Study of movement:

http://www.arcthurus.com/ca/dancer.jpg

Lights and materials:

http://www.arcthurus.com/ca/martini.jpg

and my first X-Rated sketch here in CA (je je je)

http://www.arcthurus.com/ca/nude1.jpg

Acrylics are an awsome medium, I wish to continue practicing with them until acomplishing the same confidence that I have in plain pencil....

PLease tell me what you think of them, any suggestions, books, etc..

The last one is just a scan of work in progress, just pencil, I only have the tonal base, I would upload the finished drawing later...

http://www.arcthurus.com/ca/hindu-wip.jpg

Well, thats it for now, Ill try to post more ofthen,

Take care

Cheers

You are definately on the right track for improvement. The Martini glass and the light bulb are my favourites. Keep up your studies, but remember to do some from your mind as well to use what you have learned. keep on posting!
