I've noticed that I don't draw nearly as much as I should. I don't draw much more that six hours per week, and that's mainly from my drawing class. Maybe I can get myself motivated by asking you guys this question. How much do you guys draw in a day or a week?

davi, if you draw 4-6 hours a day...then you must be playing some sh%t out of MoH.:p

I draw everyday...even if it's a little bit. i have to try everyday...even if frustration follows and i want to gouge my eyeballs out...at least some everyday.

yeah, i draw/paint every day, for at least an hour. that's mainly because of my self portraits of the day. i've also been thinkin of takin up another "of the day" thing... probably anatomy study of the day. maybe do a self portrait, and then do a figure drawing out of the mirror, or a skeletal overaly of a photo... anything, cuz i need to get back to workin on my anatomy.
i have school, work, working out, and some social life. so, i make sure that art comes before anything (equal only to school), but, i don't draw nearly as much as i want. plus, i go online too much... i go in cycles where you might even consider me addicted! lol. like yesterday, i wanted to sculpt some bones and then do my SPotD. I had from about 3 or 4 in the afternoon and had the rest of the day. Needless to say, I didn't get to drawing until around 10. I didn't do my anatomy studies either. I was really really mad at myself. :evilbat:
but yeah, make yourself draw every day. you CAN find time... it's all about priorities. i mean, if i have school, work (used to be 3 days a week, now only one, though :-\ ), social life, work out 2 hours a day (on mon, wed, fri), AND still have time to do at least an hour or 2 on my self portraits, I'm sure you can get around to drawring shtuff some, too. MAKE yourself do it every day for a few weeks and after awhile you'll pretty much naturally do it; and when you don't, you'll feel like something is missing from your day, and you'll feel guilty. but this is good guilt! heh

sorry for the long rant... :o

edit> oh yeah, sorry if i try to sound all smart or anything. i might draw every day, but I'm certainly not a great artist (but i will be one day!!! or at least i hope so heh)

Iīm trying to sketch at least 1h per day at the moment - but Iīm not very content with it, it should be more. Unfortunately my job is taking much time (yes Iīm one of the dreaded ADīs who are destroying freedom and expression in the Illustratorsī world ;)) so often I donīt even have this time if I donīt want to lose my girlfriend ... but Iīm getting easily dsitracted by my many interests what is one of my main probs. Maybe opening a sketch-thread would help to encourage me ;).

i try to sketch at least 1 hour per day.
often, work doesn't permit more :(

weekends, i try to focus a bit more, either drawing, reading books about art or browsing art forums :)

i used to draw about 5 hours a day , but my wrist is wearing out so i'm averaging about an hour or two a day. if it's crunch time, i'm definately drawing more[like right now]. i hope scott doesnt notice that im not painting for his class right now ;)

i dont it's so much how long you draw, but the observations that you make or the choices in the marks you make. now that i draw less, i think more about how i want to approach my sketches.

integrity over quantity.

I'm drawing only 1h a day, unfortunately.
But in the weekends when no school takes your time, I'm drawing around 3hrs every day.

The fact I'm living in a village with 3000 citizens who are mainly over 50, sitting the whole day in their houses, makes it hard to draw from life and get enough motivation :boring:

7+ on weekends and fridays, which is the day i have figure drawing class and that's 3 hours. 3+ hours on a weekday, unless if i have one of my lady-friends come over and pose, then it goes back up to around 5-6 hours. thats what being an artist is all about :) j/k

cheers,

2-5 hours

i would also agree with seb.
i used to feel bad if i didn't draw at least 3-4 hours a day, but after a year or two now i spend more time thinking than before. but i still try to draw as many hours per day as i can.

Hmm, a drawing a day keeps the asylum away. Anyways, I draw as much as I can, but with school going on, and teachers cursing at you, teling you to put that 'stupid' sketchbook away, it is kind of hard. x.x I'd say I get in at least three hours.

About 3 hrs a day with school. I don't do NEARLY enough drawing @ home. like other people have mentioned, there are too many other interests too. ^_^

Lately tho I've been thinking more and more about art...I'll probably start drawing @ home more. The more I draw, the more I like it.

Not nearly as much as I should or could. It's my own fault too and something I really need to fix pronto. It's hard trying to get into the habit of drawing whenever you have any open minutes of freetime, hopefully it catches on for me real soon.

Usually about two hours a day, mostly in the evenings. And usually on a Monday to Friday basis, since I meet my partner only at the weekends. However, sometimes I use him as my model :D.

About a year ago, at the beginning of my sabbatical I drew some 8-10 hours a day which was great. But life goes on and with work, household, social life and some other interests and hobbies I arrived at two hours. Certainly not enough.

i draw about 7 possibly 8 hours a day...besides classes...im a little obsessive with drawing. also it is because i have never had classes ao i am a little behind in the art game...so i am catching up fast but im still just catching up. i should post some stuff to see what everyone thinks but i am still slowly getting over my fear of computers and realising they are freggin great. i think in art, everyone wants to become great but alot just keep dreaming and dont get their ass drawing. if you want to be a good artist you should be spending at least 5 hours a day drawing, trying somthing new, even if it is crap. i have improved alot since the begining of this year just because i sit down and draw and listen to tool. i think alot of people should try alot harder and really push themselves to see what they are made of.

i don't count... a lot usually... not a lot other times.. i'm not including work in this cause that would be cheating. :) but i think your question was how do you get motivated to draw a lot right? well, there is a simple Solution. if you can... TAKE YOUR SKETCHBOOK EVERYWHERE!!!! go to a bookstore, mall, STARBUCKS, coffee houses are perfect. places to eat are perfect. the zoo is perfect. the zoo's the best cause you get the best of both worlds. people, groups, kids, animals, oh, the park when it's warm!!! ANYWHERE!!! there is ALWAYS something to draw!!! ALWAYS. architecture, land scape.. use an idea from a book you're reading... just DRAW DRAW DRAW DRAW DRAAAAAAAW. A good exercise is a sketchbook a month. don't worry if you think your drawings suck and what ever you do, don't cross em out or rip them out... just keep going.. later you might look at it and see something you didn't before!
