New bust, new alien, new opinions?

Been workin at this sculpting thing hard. I'm gonna buy some more clay, and start working on real-life animals next. (Just to show the "big boys" I can)

This being requires a drug to function in it's old age. The canisters have tubes that carry it's medicine straight through specific parts of it's body system. The canisters are replaced regularly. These aliens value their elderly foremost as they are the only link to the past. Keeping them alive is extremely important, even if they are immobile.

It's been quite intriguing to watch the progression of your skills at capturing form in the round grow these last few months. It's quite obvious that you've not only got the drive but also a bit of innate talent in sculpting.

As far as this bust goes, especially compared to the rest of the pieces you've done, it looks, quite frankly, to be more of the same. Better by far, but still a rehash of your older work.

I for one would like to see you progress laterally from doing organically random, vaguely vulvic busts (Not to say that's a bad thing mind you and not to say that a certain Georgia O'keefe didn't make a killing at it but I would like to see something different.) into something that has a discernible skull, muscle, fat and skin make-up. Spend some time looking at various animal skulls both fleshed and bare, paying attention to how nature builds it's animals. Like you said, work on some "real" creatures to show us you can.

Like I said before, you've got the drive and the skills, now all you need is a broader range and once you've mastered that I don't see anything holding you back from becoming a major player in the garage kit industry.

Thank you. Yes I am wanting to move into exactly that area. (Real-life animals and creatures) I'm going full-throttle, and I'm nowhere near running outta gas. ;) I gotta get more clay though, and then I will venture into different subjects for sculps. Thanks again for the encouragement. (means a lot)

BTW.....I checked your site out, and I love your work. Very vibrant. That robot with the dead fish and cupcake is terrific.

I like the look of the skin.

Are you going to paint your sculptures? Don't those start taking up a lot of room?

It looks really great from the front, but breaks down a bit from the side. Think about your sculpted heads and make them just as interesting from each angle.

I also agree that it could benefit from a bit more knowledge of actual human and animal skulls.

Great detail and technical ability though! Keep it up!

OMG I forgot the ears and stuff!! LOL...(that's what I get for working on it until i'm tired)...ok I will post an updated pic later. Cripes.

Thanks regardless to you guys. Thanks for posting. I'm not pro yet, but I WILL be, oh yes, I WILL be.

Like I said....I am moving into real-life stuff next, so we will see how I do. I have an understanding, I just get a bit impatient at times. Now that I viewed it fresh, it's obviously not completed. Jeez, I gotta wait until the next day b4 I post stuff. Thanks again.

Painting them might come later...I'm just working on fleshing them out right now..learning as I go, and loving every minute of it. I've had many people tell me NOT to paint them, because they love them the way they are. Besides, if I wanna make molds, it's better to do it without paint on it.

Thanks Odin! It means a lot to hear such high praise. (Especially when I'm workin hard at it):) The crits from the other guys above are appreciated too, since that pushed me to work even harder. (I simply forgot the ears and back details, but the chain and stuff was going the extra mile)

Yes, possibly I wil make a full-body sculp of it someday, but right now.....he's remaining a bust. (Since that's what I've been focusing on making lately.) I will be moving onto real-life animals and such next me thinks.

I say you do move into them soon because you have been very succesful with these busts, and seem to have gotten enough practice with them. So how about a little animal then.

Have you seen the special features for Episode 2? they have a lot of little busts, they work on for one single character. Your stuff looks like it could fit right in with those!

Iwasink- Onward and upward I go man. Thanks for the encouragement. Comparing my work to those professionals at ILM is a real booster for me. (That would be a dream job) I will continue to try hard, and I am determined to make it at this.:chug:

Your hard work has paid off, this is great sculpture work! I definitely want to see more, full figures, animals, etc!

--- Just checked your web page!!! Wow, you have a whole gallery of great stuff! If I could sculpt like that I would just cover my room with those... I like your sketches, too! Especially the Sorrow-Zombie Clown. Zombies with balloons - I could never get enough of those!

Thank you. I don't get too many opinions on my sketches, so it means a lot. When I get more clay...you will see much more from me. I appreciate your comments, and am very glad you like my work.:chug: I'm still learning.......and always will be.

Could you name your putty? What is your favourite putty?
Where did you buy your putty? (I just love the word putty...) Seriously, where can I get some?

Waster- It's actually a polymer clay that I use called Super Sculpey. It's usually sold at hobby and craft stores. It ranges between $16.00 to $40.00 Canadian PER POUND. I get mine on the internet in Canada for $16.00 plus shipping. Just check around, and see if anyone near you carries it.:chug:
