Any and all feedback always appreciated.

Whaaah! Blasphemy!
No, I find this idea cool.
Nicely done (maybe a little bit too near at the moviedesign).
You should make the cloak bigger or remove it completely.

Interesting observation. I thought perhaps there wasn't enough recognition factor. Perhaps the crown/ helmet are a little too obvious. Definitely something to pay attention to, though.

Yah, that's something that needs attention. But as I want to see it in there in the end, I would tend towards making it bigger, I think. At least a little more deliberately design conscious, at any rate.
Thanks for the feedback :)

clean drawing, I like your art alot , just looked at your website, your quite tallented
I dont really understand what he's supposed to be doing in the drawing though, the pose just doesnt seem like anything the character would be doing. Nothing critical, just an observation. The helmet reminds me of some kind of comic book character, not really sure which. After seeing your other art I'm sure you could design a much cooler helmet

Sterlingcrispin- I didn't have any sort of setting in mind when I started this one for him to be interacting with. So I just gave him this goofy mencing pose to begin with. When I go to refine his pose will be more fitting for Sauron. Thanks for the feedback.
manslauter- Then, I have achieved success :)
phlem117- Cool. I hope you share your progress.
kazaya- Hey, if a man can heve nipples then why not Mecha Sauron? :)

Nice concept. How about making your subsequent drawings with dramatic angles and such ? Make him tool like he's 10 feet tall of mean mechanical madness ! Make him ROAR ! Camera, lights, ACTION !

Cool concept. I do think he looks a little to clean. I always picture the mordor orcs & their technology as brutallty primative. Horror /Steampunk

Galactus, definitely. :bashful:
Cool drawing. I agree that the pose need to perhaps be a bit more dynamic, and giving him a sense of scale would help make him seem more imposing. Good stuff.

Hey man, I have no doubt that Proffessor JRT is rolling in his grave, but nonetheless, most of the parts in the LOTR movies would not have been their if they took that into consideration. The sketch is awsome, leave the helmet the way it is, but i agree, make the robe bigger, dont remove it, make it bigger. Nicely done, keep at it.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm working out some other ideas for this concept taking into consideration everyone's points. I'll get the sketches up here when I can.

The lack of a weapon makes him look like he doesn't have anything to do or something. Very nice though.

yeah, a lot of good comments so far. This is a cool idea. Actually, it would be awesome to illustrate a whole series of sci-fi lord of the rings. Frodo and Sam finally making it to the Mordor Constilation, crashing the ring-world of power into the black hole of doom in which it was forged, haha
seriously though, it's cool that you kept some animal elements in it, almost making it seem quasi-traditional in its roboticness. I like the idea that was put forth of showing a more dramatic angle. Possibly fighting Isuldur or something to show scale.
in the end, I think this needs more though. more scale, more scariness, more dripping evil. The Sauron in the movie was brilliant because like...his helmet was kind of skull shaped, it gave you the discomfort of almost being able to make out a neck rather than just an inhuman 'solid armor' look, but the eyes were empty little holes. If you came up with something different that could compare to that kind of horror it would rock. Try imaging some of the background stuff. Like...if mount doom WAS a blackhole, what kind of being could actually forge something in it. what kind of weapon could he use? remember the witch kings mace in return of the king? that was badass. Now imagine the mecha version.

Thanks for the feedback, aprat. Adding a weapon is clearly a good idea that I failed to see at the time.
Isric, you must be an AD. Or at least had that chore at some time. I was so fixed by your description I had this thing painted by the time i was done reading your post :) And by the weight of your portfolio I wouldn't be surprised if you were.
Anyway, thanks for the feedback. I have a lot to chew on now. Btw, we're not exactly neighbours but I'm just over on Vancouver Island.

sweet, I can't wait to see what you come up with. haha, and thanks for the AD comment, that was actually quite flattering. sadly i'm still just a student in my last year at art school. maybe one day i'll do the AD thing, but right now I just like concept art and lord of the rings.
really though, post whatever drawings you make next. I'd love to see how they turn out.
