For those us who want to attend and can't.
PLease take mounds of Photos. :teeth:
It would be great if we could get Gnomon to film it and you guys could sell dvds. But, there's probably to little time for planning.
thanks,

its purel;y a hosting issue for me... i took tons last time in austin (well i had tons after i found my memory card again) but i use the imageshack service and uploading one at a time is a pain in the ass. if anyone can make a hosting apace avalable then i'd be down. phil holland has space for his shots usually and his were probably the best anyone got. if we have an ftp to upload them to i will certainly donate all of mine.

The problem with uploading photos to a server and making them available to everyone isn't really about how much space they take...but rather the bandwidth. Imagine if 100s of people are going to look at the same photos...they will have to be downloaded 100s of times each. And if all photos take 100MB together, then if 100 people are going to download all of them, it requires 100*100 MB = 10 000 MB = rougly 10 GB of bandwidth. And I'm pretty sure that we will have a lot more than 100 MB of photos and more than 100 people looking at them.
If it's all about distributing the photos, we could perhaps use BitTorrent. You decide which files you want to share, create a .torrent file for them and upload this file (which is small...ranging from a few kBs to 100 kB or so). Then you open this file in your bittorrent client to start sharing the files. The only problem is that we need a tracker for these torrents, so that it's actually possible to download/upload something :) It's possible to use a free one, though - there are lots of them - if it's ok that anyone can download the photos.
The advantage with BitTorrent is that you download and upload at the same time. When you have received a small piece of all the files, you will automagically start uploading this piece to everyone else who wants it. If everyone who downloads make sure that he/she uploads at least as much as he/she downloads, then we will have no problems whatsoever in distributing the photos.
If I'm going, I will probably be able to run around all days taking photos. Wooo :yayca:

Bit torrent sounds like a pretty good solution. Get this i was checkin with my host the other day and turns out that apparently my package has Unlimited bandwidth... :O thats what i said.

Haha, I like those :D
Usually, they come with a weird disclaimer like "...as long as you don't do something we don't like". That may include uploading lots and lots of photos and getting loads of visitors. Or just having a too popular site...
At least that's how Swedish hosts with unlimited bandwidth seem to be.
