My brother is a beginning artist and wants to learn to use markers. I got him a set a Sanford Prismacolor Gray Markers (10%, 30%, 50%, 70%, 90%, and Black), but I would like to get him a book that would teach him marker techniques. Are there any books that you would recommend?

Also, are there any books that show techniques for using non-photo blue pencils or markers?

Thank you for your help and recommendations.

Sadly there aren't any good marker books that I've seen on the market. Heaven knows I'd love to get one to use for the class I teach.

A great technique for him to start doing is to use the non-photo blue pencils or markers, sketch out what he wants, ink it down in black, copy the image onto decent marker paper (be sure to load it on the "correct" side of the marker paper- there are TWO distinct sides to marker paper!) and have him work with the Prismacolor markers on the fresh copy. The Prismacolor markers won't eat through copier toner like Xylene based markers. If he doesn't like the greyed over drawing, just have him run off another copy of his original black linework.

Eventually you might want to splurge & get him the full color palette and then look out!
