I don't want to seem like a total square here, but I'm assuming you're talking about a computer game.
Now, don't get me wrong, I do like them. It's just I think if I ever got any, I'd never get any work done and would end up divorced.
Cheers,

yup, exactly computer games are poison for work :xx:
so, here my first crappy attempt with oil pastels.
I think I didn't match the right shade color. I used some wrong brown first, you can see it on his dirty right side of the face.

One hour for a sewer environment - meant to do more with it but the figures don;t really turn out well. I'll probably use it for a study. Should be a monster in there too somewhere, lurking to grab the squad.
http://www.xs4all.nl/~erikedf/art/wip/sewer.jpg
BTW. Ceenda: amazing sense of detail without painting it all in - impressive for 40 min! Wish i could do that ...
ceenda
April 29th, 2003, 05:37 PM
Erik: Hey, that's pretty neat. Perhaps some very faint hint of the legs under the surface of the sewage or some reflection might help the figures a bit. Otherwise, it's great.
Erik
April 29th, 2003, 05:43 PM
Hey Ceenda,
Man that figure you added is really cool! Flipped it over too i see ;-)
Yeah i see what you mean about the part below the surface but my problem was the surface emits light. Really got me in trouble with shadows etc... And my lines are not crisp enogh. But oh well. And thanx for the compliment!

OC is Open Canvas. It's a small art program for your computer, nice and simple. You can also do more painterly work.
I'm not sure if this is the site I got it from (it was a long time ago, so it may be down).

OC is a kick-ass program. You can also share a canvas with other people over the net. It crashes when you do that alot though. :\
If you log on to #conceptart (the conceptart.org IRC channel) and type "!OC" into the window it'll give you a URL to download it from.

Erik: Yep, it's all done using the palette knife. I have a modified version of the palette knife that becomes more opaque the more you press with the stylus. However, if you use the palette knife lightly, it smudges the paint.
hethe: Wow, I really like that last one. Great shapes and atmospheric colour.
Tedsuo: Good portrait, I like it. I think the pixelation comes from the way that Painter does impasto. I think that if you use brushes like palette knife and chalk with impasto, it can sometimes add too much impasto and you get that massive difference.
fredfrickstone: Woah, fred! Long time. Great to see some new stuff. I'm too shy to take my sketchbook out in public.

Thanks for the comments Ron. The art curve has been pretty bad this year because my time has been taken up with Research work (I'm a programmer by trade), which is why I've decided to stop doing programming and take time to study art for a few years. It's something I've been wanting to do for a while, but only recently decided that, at 23, I should probably be thinking about persuing art sooner rather than later. I have absolutely no idea where to get this education though. Possibly somewhere like Florence Academy of Art if my portfolio comes up to scratch. I put up a post about it here: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8227 . Programming is good for $$$ and job opportunities, but if you don't enjoy it then it's time to try something else, I think. :)
Tedsuo: Great! The values here are awesome. Been thinking about Painter 8 too, but they'll have to patch some very annoying UI things before they get my £150. :)

Nice work everyone!
Maybe not a 'speed painting'. Hour and a half in Painter 7 (a nod to Ryan Church's SW work for the colour scheme).
