A couple years ago I was drawing a lot of Disney chars, at that time I really sucked at drawing anything with a body, so I always took a comic book and looked in it and tried to draw from there, It often went pretty well, I found some of those old drawings, I scanned one and colored it with Photoshop.

Welcome to the board! :)

I started out drawing my own characters when I was really really young, but then I also started copying Disney characters and Garfield characters myself, so I can relate.

I still have those old drawings somewhere now that I'm 30, which is kinda cool.

About your drawing. Did you colour this with a mouse?

'Cause the lines are all the same thickness, and that takes away some of the life you had in the sketch I think.
It lost something along the way.
Get a tablet if you can afford one(if you don't have one).

You should put some highlight in the eyes as well(the iris/pupils), if you can be bothered. And place them more like in the sketch.

This looks like the modern Goofy, btw, not the 'good old' one.
Am I right?

Anyway - welcome here. You'll learn a lot if you want to. :)

I think an important thing to remember too is even though disney characters seem like they aren't proportionate and stuff like that. All the great animators have studied anatomy to its fullest! The reason they are able to manipulate the anatomy to have even a walking duck look convincing is because their basic drawing skills are so well developed. This one looks good but I would improve your anatomy skills and just basic drawing skills and you would see a huge improvement in your sketches...then you could most likely come up with characters on your own as well ;) Keep posting.

I used to draw Donald Duck and Garfield when I was 6 or 7yo.

And basically what made me keep drawing was my mother saying "you're drawing better than your sister at your age..." Those were the ONLY words I ever needed to hear. heh.

About Hipshot's Goofy, well John and MindCandyMan said most everything you needed to know, but my 2¢ go to what John was saying on the lines thickness.
If you don't own a tablet, ink the drawing by hand, maybe with the help of a light table.
I don't own a light table so I used my computer monitor as one a few times. heh. I set the desktop to white, put the sketch over the monitor and some tracing paper over it. :D

Variations on the lines give the drawing more expressiveness. More life.

By the way, how old are you, Hipshot?
Welcome aboard!
