It is said that once a whole culture lived in the trees, worshiping gods and demi-gods (admehns and mo'ods on their language) that showered them with blessings and miracles, until one day these celestial beings stopped showing they have ever existed, and the people began to enter a mundane cycle, carrying on with their daily assigments...
Although circumstances are still unclear, most archeaologist seem to think they died of boredom.

hamsta- that reminds me of when i lived in mali, africa there was this group of people called 'the dogon' and they lived high up on sheer rock cliffs it little caverns ... nobody ever figured out how they were able to get up there ... legend says they were magical and could fly, but anyways somehow they all died out and yeah ... it reminded me of that ^_^

here's my first try at this dsg section.

I read into it wrong by making "tree" plural. By the time I noticed, I'd allready gotten into it.

It's dan! hey man, cool to see you here, I only saw you on coloring book till now (I usually skip "short" threads)
In a forest of soul, there's still each tree on it's own right? very nice effort, good lazy on that bg tree did you?
jondan - your lights are all over the place, makes it look kinda flat
sushiboy - well, that looks amateurish, practice makes perfect, so get to work
goran - as tight as always (too tight?)
dagreengo - looks like your people could'nt fly :dead: did the tree grow after the crash? I like the loosness

hamsta : i think if the railings and a few small bits of tree had a few spots of bright crisp detail it would help alot,
dagreengo: i like it , reminds me of planet of the apes, the upper right area doesnt have alot going on but, it helps to push focus on the other stuff so Im not sure if thats reall a big deal
goran: that looks, weird, its nice but, the sky and water look like they were done in some 3d program, the tree almost does too, and then the gosts look like they were painted in quickly in photoshop, the detail contrast is just strange, you know?
danimation2001: reminds me of the trees in mortal kombat , the person in the background adds to it alot, makes it seem like a forest you could wander into instead of just some crazy place that doesnt exist
jondan: looking nice, his tree seems kind of lonley, its ilke theres a big clearing in the forest and its up on a hill in the clearing, instead of being -in- the forest, you know? I guess thats not a bad thing..

danimation, Nice use of depth and I feelyou succeeded nicely on your atmosphere.
Hamsta, I like the inclusion of the backstory. Sort of disturbing to read after doing this sketch.

P.S. I've compressed it so it's about half the size of the last one, hopefully this is better.

John always liked to travel to hell (as most woman usually suggested that he go it). On one such jaunt on the plateaus in the 3 ring of hell, John found the elusive tree of soles. John also made an important discovery that day; that when in hell and you see a tree summoning up the spirits of the nether, it’s a good idea to stay far away… far away..

BTW, Great work from everyone today! 10 points to all.

let the c&c continue:
hunger - where you been? jus't when all the admehns and mo'ods are dissapearing here you are. I didn't recognise your style when I first saw this.
antilight77 - I don't see any shoes... ;) (tree of soles) but I like the man in the tree, the spirit could use a glow.
dagreengo - good thinking, good likeness, the area where they connect is a little muddy, and the top of the tree looks wrong, probably the wrong place to crop it (even if there was no cropping involved)
radasa - I like it, not much else to say, is it digital? pen? manip. pencil?
ray - I like the trunk, looks like it's in agony, the branches however seem to just be an unlogical jumble, and the shading looks like you wanted to add leaves and keep the branches
sunny - I think you should study trees and really see how they branch, looks like someone polished your tree :)
Sterlingcrispin - I think you should have limited your palette some more, seems like there's no focus, defenitly some strangness in that one :dur:

DigitalShade - have you seen the first time this topic came around? juan cadillac had the same idea (seems to be unavailable now) apart from deja vu, I think your background is too monotone, and very acidic

ooh nice, I like the sky and what youve done with the surrounding landscape, it might look nice with more dramatic red lights hitting the tree and surrounding rocks , real fire and brimstone atmosphere its nice

lordofhjoerring, that second one has a much stonger feel. Good work placing the strand of light in the middle-accross, and playing with the trunk/perspective. Great mood for that reason.

Let's finish these crits:
joerring - much better, love the sky, buttom could use some more work, it should look more root like, maybe more contras.
payback - kind of bland, up the contrast, define the bg more (is it an ocean?) and work on the branches. The transition between skull and wood would be more dramatic with a smoother transition I think.
DV8 - made me think of snow when I first saw it. sky seems to be to a different perspective than the tree's. maybe make an eye of the storm right above the tree? nice colors.

@Sunny: I think it does look like a tree. Its in a typical (good) style; a bit more cartoony, but I like it alot, it looks really 'alive' :)
