What are some nice classical pieces you guys listen to while making your art ???
I find this very relaxing and it makes me feel like im in the 1800's ahah

I find that the Master and Commander OST is a really good album to listen to,
especially Bach's Cello suite no.1 in G maj...What are yours' ???

I like dark symphonic pieces

1) "Night on Bald Mountain"

2) Stravinksy's "Rite of Spring"

check em out

classical music is really good when you need to concentrate really hard at your work. It's not as distracting as modern rock and the likes.

I like the vocal rendition of Barber's "Adagio for Strings" (as heard in "Homeworld" and "Platoon"). "the Four Seasons" and "Pavane" are also good.

I like Planets (Mars) I think. It was in some old Amiga game (MegaloMania?). Elite 2 had some nice classic music too.

yea Holst did an awesome job w/ The Planets, my favorites are Jupiter and Mars, so awesome!

and Mussorgsky's "night on bald mountain" as well as his suite "pictures at an exhibition"(this one was actually written by him for a friend that had died who was a painter) are amazing, just brilliant

Wow, I must be on crack or something. I chill out to "Lean Back" and "So Cold" or the like :(

Actually, if I were to suggest any particular piece, Beethoven's Seventh Symphony Second Movement is absolutely stunning. :evilmustache:

Most published renditions of the 'Rochmaninov' are pretty nice.

A nice Gershwin collection goes a long way too. Pluss David Lanz is a more modern composer, but really nice, his CD sets sometimes include both his piano solos and fully orchistrated versions.

The soundrack to 'Master and Commander' has a great collection of old violin classics.

ALSO, and this is serious, the orchastral soundtrack to 'Dinosaur' is AMAZING! That composer has made BANK, 'cause his music for it is now in a lot of movie trailors... and it's the 'golf channel' theme song : D

Bach, Beethoven, Holst, Mussorgsky, Prokofjev, Rachmaninov, Sibelius, Shostakovich, Strauss, Stravinsky, Wagner... are some of my favourites, but any good composer makes me... happy.

As for actual "modern/cult/classical™" composers... Hisaishi, Ligeti, Morricone, Nyman, Penderecki, Poledouris, Sagisu, Manson... no, Manson isn't very classical but is cult, isn't it? :teeth:

La Folia composed by Corelli is awesome, Handel has some cool Violin sonatas. Bach's cello suites are well, basically the most famous cello works and just amazing. Dvorak Concerto in A minor (violin) is good. Bach's Partita's and Sontatas for violin are cool (esp. Partitia No. 3 in E Major). If you wanna get really inspired by something fast and impossible and mind boggling, Paganini's 24 Caprices are insane. Those are my favorite (I'm learning the 24th one now... major toughness).
Jull- you mentioned Wagner... do art with that and you will get some pretty... well it would probably make great art, but wow, thats some... interesting.... music...
This doesn't really count as classical its orchestral tho, but the soundtrack to Pirates of the Carribean. Ok... I'm done going on about music obssesivly :blahblah:

So many good stuff, and I hardly know the name of most of em.

Yo Yo Ma is one of my favorites. I get most of my classical through soundtracks or streaming internet radio. the Magnatune stations on winamp are reallly good.

That's about the only classic I like. I hardly listen to music unless its to make some noise to break the monotony of all nighter jobs.
