I'm putting the brush down on this one after a long time on the drawing board.

This is more an exploration for me than an exercise of an established style. Lots of trial and error.

I think I learned a lot, but would have a hard time telling you exactly what :D. Maybe that custom brushes are very important and that I need to work on a better set of brushes for myself (anyone recommend a resource for good working brushes? Most of the stuff I've seen seem to be more along the lines of patterns/stamps)

Also, I need to find a better method of establishing a palette early on and keeping it integrated throughout the painting process.

Wow, that's really a beautiful piece.

My only crit would be her face. I think her skin tone is too white compared to the skin tone on her arms/legs. Unless she is wearing white makeup of course. Maybe that's just it?

I also think there's something a bit off....but maybe I just would have wished she was better looking! :D

Hmm.....I think perhaps her face is too wide at the eye level. Not sure what it is...

Well - very nicely done anyway. :)

you still need to put the reflective water caustics on it, just like at poo:D on the faces of the lions..it adds a lot of ambience

Thanks John P. It is supposed to be white face makeup. And I'm not allowed to paint anyone prettier than my wife (who was my model).

although I suppose the likeness can use some work...

Wally, ahhhhh! Maybe I will come back to this later and paint the enveloping surface formed by light rays reflecting or refracting from a curved surface, especially one with spherical aberration. (You mean the weblike light patterns you see on the backs in your typical bottlenose dolphin painting type thing?)
