This is the first self portrait I have done since i turned 17. It took me about an hour and a half.

I layed some flat colors over it in oc once I got it scanned, I chose to keep them flat thinking it would help to keep it simple and not overpower my scribble rendering.
comments and constructive criticism is encouraged.

Bretton, good to see you still posting stuff!
The sp is really good. I favor the b/w version more. It strikes me as more dramatic. The coloured version is good, but not as engaging. The cool colours push it away emotionally and ends up feeling lackluster for me. Kind of like a badly done piece of pop art. I think that if you are going to colour it, give a strongly contrasting colour in the back ground - *or* leave the background cool and make the sp a brighter colour.
Hope that helps, and makes sense!
Cheers,

Lim-thank you for your comments :]
Oregano-good to hear not everyone has forgotten about me! I agree with the color one, i get critiques for my coloring always so i guess i need to work on that, thanks. I haven't been around much since highschool started back up again, i have a lot of artwork at school so i will probably have a decent sized art-dump by the end of the school year, or possibly the end of the semester.

Good.
Is it from reference or life (mirror)?

Well, I certainly hope it's sooner! :rendered: I miss seeing your stuff around! But I understand having to have the time to put stuff up!
Cheers,

patternagainst: this is from photo-reference, they usually are as i find it really difficult to sketch myself from a mirror. I do have (after wasting many sheets of paper on self-portraits that look nothing like me) a semi-successful one done from a mirror in the december self portraits thread if you are interested.
oregano: i would like to get some of my stuff up too of course, but it is not really a matter of time as much as it is I need my art at school so that slides of it can be taken (they are for ap portfolio). I guess that is really more of an excuse though since I often have time to draw things at home. The first step to recovery is to admit I have a problem (laziness) I think I should go draw now.
