Roaming the oceans around pangea, aeneudonts was built like a can opener, in an ocean filled with amonites, turtles and other armored fish aeneudonts has four solid teeth, and a detachable jaw designed for crushing. With it's thick skin and relative agility aeneudonts fears one thing only - a bigger aeneudonts.
This particular speciman is at the prime of it's life, and at nearly 40 years old has the scars to prove it's rank.
Messy finger (Charcoal) for around 30 min :)

This is my concept for the ancient fish. Its mostly like an angler fish but bigger by 4 feet, it lives around the deeper area of southeast asia. Its bigger and chubbier in comparison to a coleacanth, its close to a cross breed by having the color of a coleacanth and an angler fish, but like the angler fish it crosses around the deep sea fish types. It eats smaller fish.

Through the drawing of the concept, I tried continuing a personal experiment im conducting where I try to do artworks outside of what I often do. This one is a bit close to what I love to do all the time, which is women. In one of the classes I have in College, which is Character and Object design,we were assigned to combine two animals and put it in a different inhabitat. Human were my first attempt but my close friend Hobbes has a specific character that I want to cross breed it with. So here is the result.

This is the second draft, this time I added some clothing and fancy decoration. I tried to think of the idea of the ancient fish, but when I think of the word Ancient, and Fish, one term comes to my head, and that is atlantis. Perhaps this is the type of people who inhabits that place after it sunk to the sea.

Memento Mori - This is what I intend to CG and finish by tonight once I get home from work at 1 a.m. ( I love working in a video store.) The whole idea of this work is the hybrid character holding a skeleton of a redfieldus fish.
Im sorry if this is too long of an entry, perhaps the idea of fun and concept has caught me to the point I got carried away.

Nishikawa - Great sketches man.. the mur-maid is a cool idea.. but she seems too young for the topic
Hobbes-Maxwell - Really nice feel to this. Looks like an old master drawing. As if you drew from observation. Welcome to CA.
Goran - you've got a good sense of depth there. Nice expression on fish-face.

I haven't contributed to the DSG in about 4 months or so and not since May or so before that. I had to do today's because it was the first topic that caught my eye lately.
Drew this in the car on the way to my father-in-law's house. My fish had tentacles for helping to grab it's prey and eat it raw.

I wish I had the time to comment on all, but the kids are asleep, so I must follow...
Hobbes_Maxwell - I thought that was great.
Everyone else, good job as well.

Spend more time on the lava than the fish (and it still isn't what I had in mind :-( )
This ancient fish jumps out the lava to cool down a bit and dives under again looking for minerals.
