Hey guys. :)

Thought I'd try to get some input on this portrait I'm making. I want it for my portfolio, so I thought I'd ask you guys!

Stop drawing what you think you see, and start drawing what you see.

Watch how you handle the gal's lower lip. Generally speaking make the lower lip a little bit smaller than the upper lip. Tuck the edge of her lower lip under her upper lip.

Also try to be aware of the light source. Judging from the reflection you put in the eyes & shadow on the neck, I see the light source as coming from the upper right and yet the nose gives no indication of that. Nor does the hair. Take a look to see how other people delineate a nose. The line generally drawn on the nose helps indicate a shadow and yet I see shadows on BOTH sides of her nose.

And the eyes look as though they're two different sizes even though I know the head is in a slight perspective. The pupil in the eye furthest from us (her left eye) is actually larger than the one closest to us.

Hopefully these hints will help you tighten this drawing down. It obviously shows some solid potential and your understanding of the spatial relationships within a face. Keep up the good work.

I'm wondering if you are working from a photo or from life?
One thing that is confusing me is the hair--It looks like it is drawn from a straight-on view, but the face is drawn from a 3/4 view.
Some of the hair is covering her left (our right) cheek, correct? I think this is the problem--this piece of hair is blending in with the rest of the hair and I can't tell that it's really in front of her cheek, and not behind it.
Looks good so far--check your placement of the lips. They look a little low to me.

keep it up!

No better words of advice offered than these!
