I'm not as familiar with human anatomy as I'd like to be, so's wondering what I can do to improve this. Any comments/ideas would be appreciated!

The hair is going to be white, and the cloth.. is supposed to be black, but may become white if black turns out too strong. In which case I plan to darken the background. I also think the picture is a little plain, so I might make it up with more elaborate coloring... any tips on tricks and techniques that can be used in photoshop(6)?

I think this looks pretty good so far. I might make the arm a little longer, though it's pretty close.
Remember, even though her skin is blue you don't have to make it all one color.
There can be slight color variation in different areas.

keep it up!

I look forwar to seeing this done. I would suggest dropping her breasts a little bit, they seem in an akward position right now. But I might be wrong...so it's up to you.

anatomy:
"I'm not as familiar with human anatomy as I'd like to be"

this is an extensive area. there is plenty to eat until you're full, so dig in. one night of studying it will get you that much closer.

find resources on the subject and search for useful information about the human body such as the different systems and parts of the body and their purpose.

knowledge of anatomy is great! it is essential for creating believable anatomical subjects. this study is assisting in the intent of creating artwork from this knowledge.

find resources on studying anatomy with observation; observation techniques and theories. (there is a lot out there)

then, study the visual aspects by observation. :bashful:

make note of your observations.

coloring techniques:
i have not seen what you are capible of with your skill. i am asuming this piece is strickly for fun and practice.

i can see some problems with where you are so far. i see that you have moderate understanding all of the following: anatomy, sketching(line), rendering, color, and photoshop.

from what i can tell, you are approaching this painting in steps. this is a cool way to approach a piece, i approach paintings i am willing to put more time into this way.
on a limb here, i think you're moving into your next step unprepared - you should prepare for your next step; you should sketch with the intention of coloring it in photoshop and seriously be sure you have removed/remedied any mistakes you have made.

here is an entire subforum dedicated to different techniques and such:

I want the same one for xmas!!!!!

Allways dreamed of being attaked by a bus full of grey skinned helfettes!!

Anatomy, easy get some anatomy books copy photos, we all still do that...
or even better get someone naked see how fun that is.

Hands are to work on I like the head the render is bit minimalist but it kind of works, the hair... something was bothering me with the hair and I couldn't tell what until an image came back to me : have you ever seen garlic notted together in the same way?!
the hair is too dry to much like straw - ence the garlic image - make it finer.

The drapery is fairly good - but the fact that it stops where it does makes it look like the legs of the poor thing are about 40 centimeters long!

I would either continue the legs on the other side of the cloth either extend the picture and make the cloth cover the length of her legs.

keep it up

I don't think the problem is that the arms are too short, I think it's that the torso is way too long. Her elbow should be close to her hip not her palm.

Also she's badly in need of a butt lift. Too round and too small makes it almost look saggy. :P
