Here are the three better illustrations from a series for a RPG supplement called Fringe Races. All of these folks are supposed to be outcasts for one reason or another. These were kind of rushed; but there may be some time for changes before it gets laid out, so any feedback would be appreciated.

hey david,
these are looking good. i would like to see you pushing further in their finish. right now they do not have enough variation in value or delineation of plains. try to pick an area of interest on each and bring it up a few notches. you can leave the rest a bit looser. this contrast can work very well in composition as well as letting a viewer subconsciously fill in the rest of the details for themselves. that way they see what they want to see. but you have to give them a push in the right direction.

The pose in the second picture is great.

mushuhaha: Thanks. These were so rushed. Some of them worked, others didn't. There are actually 6 more.
foster: Thanks for the critique. Your comments are really resonating with me.
Detail is absolutely my albatross. Where to paint and where not to. It's something I'll just have to keep working on.
Any more tips are appreciated. I took another pass at it tonight:

Thanks, everyone.

Huge improvement. I didn't think you were going to rework those, but it seems like you got the hang of it so far, huh?
My only crit is the eyes on the girl and the goblin below her. There isn't and definition there. I think it would help your piece out a lot.
O!

very cool, i like the small drawing of the girl, the second image you posted.
are you using painter7 to paint these? If so i suggest you play with the scratchboard tool(not rake) in the pens section

littlejohn: You said there are six more drawings similar to the second image? O, c'mon, you should post them all!

mushuhaha: Hey, you caught me. Now I have to post the mediocre ones. To save face, I'll post a work in progress collage I made for the client:

So trust that they look a bit better than this. :)
davi: Yeah, these are Painter 7. I love the scratchboard tool, but I have trouble mixing drawing and painting. It's something I think about a lot.
iwasink: Thanks for the crit. I probably won't have another chance to work on it, but I learned a lot from everyone's comments.
Thanks everyone.
