Hey Everybody I wanted to post up a thread full of the things that I have been doing at my atelier to get everyone up to speed with where I am at.

I also wanted to let everyone know that there are A COUPLE OPENINGS AT PANTURA STUDIOS RIGHT NOW! Some people are leaving the studio and there will be some more spots opening up very soon so if any of you are interested in learning in this type of manner just go to http://www.panturastudios.com and look in their "students" section. It's a fantastic place to learn and the teachers are awesome plain and simple. If you are interested give it a shot...you don't need a spectacular portfolio...you just need to have the desire.

Here is some of the work I have done there to date to give you an idea:

MCM,

I know I should probably comment in your main thread, but what the hey...
The onion is gorgeous, and the dead birds remind me of Fabritius' Goldfinch.

nate is right, jon. Hans wouldn't be able to handle the hilarity ensuing if I were to come up....better stay where I am. REALLLLLY appreciate the heads up though.

For everyone else, an education like this is very difficult to find. Get it while its hot!

Really beautifull work!! I especially like the appel and onion.

But i have a question: How did you do the plaster head, fifth from the bottom?
I was wondering about the size and technique, what materials etc.. and how long did it take you?

Thanks

Thanks for the encouragement everybody...I wanted to show some of my work so that it might inspire some of you guys to come and study here...if you want to draw and paint similar to this (trust me you will end being better than I am) than apply here and come out to study. The teachers are phenomenal and you will learn so much it will make your head explode. Nil, and others...think twice before dismissing it.

The swift - I know I'm so sorry about that...well they know your name now at least...if in two years you are still on the path they will take you...trust me. Also they told me that both of them, when they applied to Florence, were told there was a waiting list and they both got in. Don't despair! Hope that helps.

Form - You gotta try to get here man...do anything you can...you can pay month by month and it's 400 dollars...just apply and see what you can work out with them...it doesn't hurt to apply...just write them and see...you never know man. It would be awesome to have you here and you would do so well.

art addict - Hey man thanks for the comments...in my signature it says "my journey" click on that and you can see progress pics throughout the pages of all my works at the atelier...many of them at least. That was just charcoal on paper. Lemme know if you need more help...thanks again

Hey, nice plaster casts.
Your Journey thread is amazing. It's such a treat to witness an evolution such as yours.
I've done my time in various ateliers, and the knowledge gained is indespensible.
I recommend it to everyone.

James, what ateliers did you go to? Any comments on the experience?

Jetpack...
Yeah, I studied under Virgil Elliot and Ning Hou in their private studios, you can Google them for more info.
But the most enlightening experience was my trip to Russia to study at the Royal Russian Academy. They do things a little different there, for instance, the models pose perfectly still for 45 minutes at a time! not like the wussy models here in America that pose for 20.
Also in some of the more advanced classes, they put the model in a different room to force you to draw from memory. Yes, that means you have to study the model for a few minutes, then run back to the other room and quickly draw what you observed. Yikes!
I have a million stories to tell about hardcore Russian training, but it's bed-time.

wow dude, that russian training sounds sweet. when i get a little better I'll set up outside the studio and run in to view the model...man, that is a great idea...thanks!

I'm thinking very seriously of training at Pantura when I graduate from hs this spring/summer. Are there any age requirements/guides at Pantura? It seems that their students tend to be adults, but I'd be 17-18 by then.

hey thanks for the heads up Jon. This work looks fantastic dude, it's really cool to see it all together like this. You've blown the roof clean off, yet your house is still dry...:)

James Kei - Dude that sounds hardcore! You must have received amazing training at the Russian Academy and you are right...the models here are so wussy...45 minutes...that's awesome. I only wish they could stay still that long. Is there somewhere that I can view your work? I'm sure it's amazing! Great idea with the models too...that's a great idea.

jkior - I think they pretty much want people that are 18 and above at the studio because of legal reasons I assume. You basically live at the studio...you don't sleep there but almost hehe...so it makes sense that someone would need to be of legal age just to be safe I think. That's my first thought at least. But at any rate definitely apply in the summer. You could apply now and ask them to put you on reserve for that month and if they still have the opening then...then you can just go right in. It would be cool to have another conceptartorgian there!

steak - Glad you got the heads up...seriously consider it man...your work would explode if you got this training...it's already fantastic!!! Imagine!
