Awsomeness of nature

Here are some pics that I took in my home town Binghamton, NY last saturday during an insane aurora borealis. Best one I have ever seen. They were pulsating, which is harder to see unless you are in canada or further north. It was a pretty cool thing to see. Unfortunately it was very windy and alot of my pics came out blurry do to long exposures. I shot them on a Sony f707, its nice camera for the most part, but it sure likes to leave noise. If anyone else has cool nature pics that they have taken feel free to post them here and say what camera you used.

omg, If there's one thing in the world that I want to see, it's an aurora borealis.
I've been to norway alot, never had any luck.
The pictures are quite good, but I don't think any kind of medium can do the real thing justice.

was the green created from the yellow light over the blue sky?
Do you find it annoying that there's green?

The second and third are my favourites. The second because of the mundane telegraph pole in the forefront of the beautiful aurora - and the third becuase of the layered effect of the clouds and the sky, with the forest visible near the bottom.

Thanks for the responses everyone. As an answer to your question Denart, in upstate ny and I am assuming most mid latitudes, the main color of the aurora is green and as it develops more, more colors come into play like the reds and pinks. Atleast that has been my experience with them. The sky is green in some of them due to the long exposure and as the camera gathers more light from the aurora it tends to make the sky green as well. My favorites are the first 2 as well. If anyone cares go to www.spacew.com and check out the reports for auroras.

As the answer to your other question, its only annoying if there is too much grean, I guess it all depends, here is a pic I took last year around this time as well, this one started out green, but later it got some real intense pinks and red. This one is probably my favorite picture I have ever taken.

you're making me all nostalgic now. i used to live in northern michigan and we would see these every so often. i also had the opportunity once, when camping in canada, to see them pulsing so fast it looked almost like a lightning storm... very surreal.
