LOVELY!
The first thing that caught my eye was her hair. I like the way you went about that. But as it loaded down, i thought my browser stoped. So i guess cutting it off right there bothers me.

But you know me...i always wanna see more of your paintings.
:D

its beautiful..

maby bring in some subtle definition to seperate her shoulder deltoid from her latt on her side? seems like too seemless of a curve in her side. just edge detail mostly.
very subtle.

looks fantastic man.

uuu.. i can't wait to see it done. lovely as usual.
me.. i might warm up just a little little bit the background - the manner you made it is simply superb - i would just "perfume" it with more of the red and green.

I wonder if the anathomy faked? I think her left shoulder is too big. But I just love the clima on the picture (like from the TOOLs` clips) and her fire-hair.

kick ass underlighting and color!! nice design too. So why do you use ps6 instead of 7? I've also heard people say the ps5.5 is the best. (?)---ty

cool beans, i will try to address all that was brought up. there are things in this one that i very much like and there are things that just don't sit right with me. perhaps when i go back in with everyone?s suggestions i will be happier.

so how many people do not like the cropping and how many don't have a problem with it. not to put you on the spot brokencow (you have hit on something that i am not sure about) i just want to see how it feels to everyone else. sometimes i see croppings in art that i think just should not work but they do and not only do they just work they work brilliantly! this is not that extreme of a crop but i think i can learn something more about how the eye travels in a painting by asking you all.

i think the reason this crop isn't 'as successful' is because there isn't another focus in the center. i'm thinking that is a belltower...if it is...give it mor focus and i thinkt this would look alot better. But maybe i'm wrong.

Striking piece Jon, the more I see you guys handling digital like natural mediums makes me want to turn to it...I'm so tempted.

As far as your crop I think as a rule I follow, and its pretty much my own thing I never crop at joints or exactly at the waste/top half of pelvis ..usually mid thigh works well or mid torso, thats why the crop may seem a little strange. I'm curious to know who is she? whats her story? it seems as professionals post we all sort of get lost in the technical side of it all but in reality its an illustration and a work of art telling some story..would love to hear about the actual concepts..or scenes.

Foster looks good..

My thoughts:

I agree with Oblio, maybe warm up the background more.. I like the direction of the hair, but the movement of the background is maybe too much, make it seem more still to have a stronger contrast.. maybe longer brush strokes and sharper edges or something... not sure.. maybe also create a second interesting focal point back there, but don't draw to much from your figure.

If you are trying to make the figure more emaciated.. make her ribs on the left side of her *right side looking at painting* more pronouced maybe.. also her armpit needs to have that stringy tendon feel to it or something..

I dunno, you are for more better than I, so take my words with a grain of salt.

peace.

I love this piece, btw, the cropping doesn't bother me. Although targete brings up a good point. One thing that slightly bothered me is that her right ribs seem to not wrap around her torso. Kind of like they protrude out of the center of her abdomen, and don't really wrap around. Another thing I suggest as well would be to at least indicate some more of what's at the top of the window that we see.

Other than that and what others have said, amazing stuff as always:thumbsup:

The cropping doesn't bother me, either. I think there's a tension there that complements the other aspects of your work. I can't really add anything except that I wish I could see a higher-res version. Amazing.

Grand. You've captured the moment. I absolutely love the mood of this image. The shadow she cast over the building behind her is lovely. It really brings out the depth of this picture. The lower half of the image looks like a distorted photo compare to the upper painting like portion, I don't know if that was your intention.

The only things that bothered me at all about this image have already been addressed. I gotta say this one is amazing! Her "hair" looks absolutely fantastic. The whole feel and idea for this piece is amazing. I can't wait to see it finished and I am with little john...bring on the high rez version. I can say honestly jon, in my opinion, that the last three images you have posted have been evidence of your skills moving in a very pronounced direction. Sometimes it's hard for me to judge the progress of the pros but I can really see that you are improving. Great job.

this is the updated painting. thanks to all for their advice. i like it much more now thanks to your input.

Targete, your paintings are too wonderful. don't go down the digital road. only because you will feel a hole in your heart when it comes to having originals to hold, to feel, to reminisce, to sell!

this painting is for the interior of "the uninvited" book that i am working on for dave dorman and del stone jr. this particular scene is of the light emulation of a woman who is extremely allergic to light. she has her own cult of followers that live in a strange section of the city. they hang black objects everywhere and put oily smoke into the air to create a perpetual twilight. the insides of her abodes are all tightly sealed up and have light baffles hanging all around. the insides of the buildings have not seen light for decades! and she comes to this miserable end as another character ignites a magnesium flare.

Del writes this much more interestingly in the book.

I like the new composition Jon. IMO I think it looks better, when flipped horizontally. I downloaded the pic and looked at it flipped around and I like it better that way. I guess since you originally showed us the pic flipped the other way, I expected it to remain in that direction. Nevertheless, it is a really a great piece. I love the colors you used on her and her hair. So much contrast! The story behind it reminds me of "Dark City," have you seen tha movie before?

BTW, are you going to paint more characters or scenes for this book?

Hey Jon...looks awesome man although I would have to agree with iwasink...I find that the open space in the direction that the flowing hair is pointing is easier on the eye. My eyes follow the direction of the hair and then hit a wall where the picture stops. That is a small small thing though. This piece looks fantastic...hearing the story behind it makes it ten times better. I can't wait to see that book.
