Hey guys i'm pretty new to drawing... I got a quesiton how do you guys start off? I find it hard to invision or get a grasp of what I want on the paper. I can see what I wanna produce in my head but I seem to get to critical after a few mins of drawing and try and just produce from what i got on the paper and not keep adding from my head... I dont know if that makes sense but do you guys generally have an idea of what you want before you start? How do u approch sketching?

Basicly if i just sit there and day dream i got tons of ideas but if i get infront of paper my imagination locks and I cant seem to produce the detials i want.

Any suggestions?

Learn drawing by life drawing. Search this forum back to the beginning (there's a drop down thingy at the bottom of the page) and see what you can learn from similar questions people had (and got answers to) before. :)

As Jason Manley has said on here many times before, the best thing to do is to draw my life, as much as possible. It serves to really build up your visual vocabulary. You will notice after doing life drawing for awhile that it becomes much easier to put down the images and ideas in your head. It's like a whole alphabet or word dictionary. It's hard to use words that you don't know of, but after you have used the word plenty of times and heard it used plenty of times, it's easy to use it over and over again and it's easy to tweak with it. The same way works with drawing. Draw from life and you will see the improvement.
