Well, I decided that now, since I'm into keeping a sketchbook again, I would throw some random sketches out here to see what you all had to/could say about them. I expect only criticism, but that is why I'm posting :)http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v219/Anghardel67/manonhorse.jpg

This first is just a sketch of a sketch--in art class I found an anatomy book and came across this, so I just recreated it really quickly. I'm doing this more and more to try and get a feel for the shapes of things, more than precise lines right now.

This image is also from a book I came across in the art room--the very same as the one that held the picture above this one I believe. It's pen and charcoal pencil, and once more I'm simply trying to recreate it--different look to this one, I like it.

I was bored in US History class and decided to sketch the person sitting next to me, who also happens to be a visual artist. This was the best I could do in the time I was given (the single class), with the teacher calling on me for everything :P. It's in pen as well, though not sharpie as the ones above it. The proportions are a bit off I know, and the dreadlocks in the back don't really look like dreads.

Practicing some eyes here--and yes, I left one off of the poor fellow in the top right corner. Let me know what you think. They are done in pen, I like pen 8)

This is the only sketch I have in the current sketchbook that is in pen. If anyone reads Juxtapoz magazine, which I am sure some of you do, then you might recognize it from the recent tattoo issue, which used this as sort of a mascot for some convention or another.

So these are the first few sketches from me--in my newer, spiffier sketchbook. I plan on sitting down and really going at it soon, seeing what I can spill out.

I have only just started takijg my drawing seriously so not much crit except for the eyes, since they are sort of my speciality for some reason! ^^

Your eyes look a bit dead at the moment. Try adding some more highlights! Also, the eyelids usually look very thick and perfectly in line with the eye. Especially at the top of the eye it tends to disappear slightly, especially when looking up.

Here is an eye I drew a little while ago. I overdid those two perfectly round reflections but look at the iris. It is shaded in itself and that let's it come to life a bit.

thanks for the crit. I might go back to pencil to get some practice in--it's hard for me to add things like highlights too well with a pen :painting:. I'll have to do some things today and come back with more scans :)--thanks again.

oh and by the way, nice eye :)

Crit? Don't scribble. Use the line but lift it up every time you want to start a new one. Don't go back and forth. It looks to rushed.

seems reasonable enough. So, just as I do not want to go back and forth in different directions with the same line, should I avoid marking over one line more than once? I think my art teacher said something about this--mostly the scribbly in the first picture is from the original piece which I copied over. However, on the portrait the scribbles are my own :\

Edit: Perhaps I also need to practice my crosshatching. For now I see that it looks like cross-scribbling.

Making some more attempts at sketchbooks, this is my first stippled piece (in the current book). I started it today during my Physics class--bad, bad me. It is supposed to be a tricep, thus far anyway. What I have done in this picture are the tricep, some of the bicep, a very little amount of the shoulder, and the line trailing down the forearm. It's going to be tough to continue the piece if I don't find the picture I was referencing from though, which I believe I may have left in class. :nohope:
