i think i just did, anyhow seeing as i am still alive i will say this; krongt yamme link noota, you have some interesting ideas and the color while being of high contrast looks quite good on the stiff lines, draw from life more, his neck should be widened and heavier shadows are always a good idea.

Hmmm...
I always find it hard to critisize, but I feel I have to (since you asked, right?).
Your anatomy is all wrong. Not yours personally ;)
just the way you draw it.
Where's his neck? His head is balancing on a stick that juts from the front of his chest. I wish I had my WACOM pad here so I could draw you a couple of models.
The fabric doesn't look like fabric. It doesn't look like anything.
Start looking for reference material in the future, draw from life (see the thread too, it helped me a lot). Just draw, draw, draw. You'll get better! This is already a good start, the way you try to bring it to life with color. Just don't try to do too much all at once. Make studies of objects, textures and colors and combine them later, in a piece that deserves it.

hey, this is just the beginning of you pushing through a new style. i see all kinds of potential!
the first pic has some wonderful color starting. it is not just the color you choose but where you choose to put it. one thing i am noticing about these pieces (except the line art) is that the marks all seem to be the same. there is no variation on edge or size. this is one of the main things bringing it down a notch from your other works.
as far as anatomy, this is stylization. you are making up the rules for anatomy in this universe. but remember that to change or just deviate from the norm is incredibly misleading in its apparent simplicity. it is harder to convince the viewer of your intent when you start to stylize. that is why dave mckean or kent williams are held in such high regard, well part of the reason. they are changing a visual language of the body but with such knowledge and intent that it still translates to the viewer.
all of that to say yes keep going! this is where it starts for you.
by the way, the line art is my favorite part right now. the work in the hair and clothing are going in the right direction. do not simplify the features of the face too much though, bring the same energy and intent to them.

*sighs*
I'm just a lurker here, but I decided to register for this.
http://www.tatoomcity.org/image/crow/CROWWWW%20copy.jpg
look familiar? :/
The artists name is Yi Lee.
Site can be found at http://www.tatoomcity.org/
Second piece probably "resembles" something there too, I don't have time to look right now. :/
Edit: No, I'm not saying "OMGHESATRACER!" or anything. I'm just pointing out that if you're going to go and do something that's influenced by someone elses pictures, you should give credit to them. It's just a matter of common courtesy.

Oh....
-It's ok to be inspired by someone's work, or even to copy it, as long as you state it clearly in the post.
Or at least say you've used reference.
To copy someone's work and rename it and call it your own is... Not cool.
I'll wait for the reply post from Darkness though, but this doesn't look good. http://home.online.no/~johmoe/smilies/erm.gif

well I was inspired by Yi Lee and I certainly didn't copy her/him.
There is some refference but not significant.
This guy posted it on Eatpoo.com but the guys there seem to agree with me in terms that it wasn't copied, just influenced.
And I have seen Yi Lee's work, but I honestly I didn't copy it.

oops, he did it again.

as i said, you should mention this in your initial post...
seeing you "being inspired" twice, without mentioning, doesn't make it any better...
just try to come up with your own ideas, it's not that hard......

how old are any of you!? i mean you circle like sharks! if you see something like this, why don?t you write the artist off line with a personal message and ask him first. give him the option of explaining or giving credit. but instead you ambush him. grow up!
Silence, the fact that you lurk until you find an opportunity to blow someone out of the water is telling in itself. post some work, learn some tact.

I beg your pardon?
Please. I had already seen a post on eatpoo - which nacho linked now, and then this one.. and then this one again on eatpoo, where this guy is copying other people's work without giving them credit.
It was a case of Yi Lee happening to be an artist whose work I was familiar with, and it just happened to be something that I consider to be very rude for someone to do. That's hardly 'circling like sharks' and I'm sorry you feel that way about it.
It's not too hard to give credit or post reference material.
I'm sorry if this irks you. If you wish to support people in copying other peoples work uncredited, by all means, do so. But please, don't jump down my back because I wish to point it out if I notice it.
And Darkness - I'm actually female. Not a guy. =/

Silence, don't be silly and work a little harder at your argument.
i stated nothing about support for copying anthers work. i stated that you did not use tact or just common sense in approaching the artist himself or herself (off a public forum) about your concerns. you chose to bring up the point in a way that did not give the person the chance to come clean themselves. maybe you thought this was some terrific find on your part or a way of showing superiority. Whatever the case it is not that you shouldn?t approach the artist. of course you should. it is the way you go about it.
do you want to take this further? if so think a little harder before you write.
jon foster
oh and go ahead and put your real name with your post. as well as maybe some work.

Well, maybe some tact could've been used, but I think that
the names "Crow" and "Raven", plus the second of Darkness' drawings and the one Silence posted, have too much in common not to mention the influence in the first post.
It only takes one more sentence.

I agree with what you are saying John P. All he needed to do was add one line in there saying that he was using another person's art for "heavy" reference. Which is fine to do as long as you state that that's what you're doing.
That's how I started to draw. When I was in grade 3 I coppied a picture of Garfield and everybody loved it. So I started to copy a lot more. Eventually I got good enough to start doing my own creations. So keep doing that Darkness... just make sure to give credit. I like your rendition of it. Neat style.
So I guess what I'm saying is that I agree with John P. but I also don't really blame Silence for speaking up... but yes, there could have been a different way to go about it.

i discussed this with some friends today and i must say that i think the both of you are right. of course a mention as to your direct inspiration is needed. i just would like to give a person a chance to learn, what maybe to them was not too clear, before blasting them in public.
so my apologies to all that i may have blasted in the defense of tact.

I was kind of riding the fence on this one. I see Jon's POV as well as Silence's. I went to Yi's website and noticed that his character's name (which THIS piece liberally borrowing) is Crow. This posted piece is called Raven and is, for the most part, identical in theme and design to Yi's. I have a problem with that depending on the age of the artist. A certain amount of tact comes with age and experience. I think it is improper to post something, such as this, WITHOUT pointing to your source. SO. live and learn on this one...
(UNTIL...) I went to Darkness's website and he apparently attends the Art Institute.
Question: Darkness, when you turned this in, did you let your instructor know that it was based off of another artists concept? If not... BAD.
