Ive been thinking, with todays discussion around bush and world politics, and how the future is going...seemingly the 'wrong' way to the majority... and the right way for a minority.
First let me say this thread is not here to demonize or advocate any party, to express my political views or my views on people, nations or anything of the sort.
What I wanted to say, to express to you guys is this.
Take ten minutes out of your day and dedicate it to just becoming AWARE of what conceptart is. CA is the biggest (I have seen) grouping of like minded artists in the world. we have over 10 000 people who are all here, dedicated to their craft and a life as an artist (ok lets say 5-6000 who actually do art and dont browse). But my point is - we have a shared power.
For many hundreds of years, artists have been a very powerful force in society. We have been chroniclers of history, presenters of ideas and innovations, forces in the shaping of society, religion, and the broader arts community. The influence of great artists is not hard to find and if you look you will see it all around you.
I believe that we mustnt let ourselves diminish our own value as artists. Yes, CA.org is a site primarily dedicated to artists in the film and videogames industries. However, we are all still artists, and through whatever medium we choose we have the power to express our opinions and thoughts and INFLUENCE PEOPLE, help them open their eyes.
We cannot let ourselves be trapped by our chosen path in art. We have to use these tools that have been given to us - a game that a few million kids will play - that is an INCREDIBLE opportunity to have our voice be heard!!
When i hear people on here saying they dont feel like they have a say in the world - we have one of the biggest!! We, as artists, are communicators. Our lives are dedicated to communicating ideas and messages to the people all around us. We are the best people in the world for this purpose.
Please keep this in mind - work on your concepts, have your career jobs, work for those big companies you have dreamed of working for... and all the other long term goals so many of us have. Thats great, and admirable, and a fantastic achievement!!! But dont forget the role of an artist in society that has been forged over countless generations.
We are communicators. We have power, we have influence, and we have the opportunity to help other people become aware of what is going on around them.
if you are worried or unsure about what the future of our planet holds, as so many of us here seem to be - use that energy, direct it, chanel it into your art. Be subtle. Use your theories - colour, composition, to direct your thoughts onto the canvas. Never forget the power that you have.
We are artists. Lets take back the role that is rightfully ours that modernity has gradually taken from us. let your voice be heard....never forget what it means to be a true artist. Noone can take that voice away from you.
