Here is a concept I'm doing of the villain Skeletor from the 80's cartoon Masters of the Universe. The original colors I did for this piece were rather disappointing, so I decided to have another go at it. I'm rendering this painting using Photoshop 6...

I'd like to give credit to Jason Manley and Andrew Jones -- I attended their digital painting demo at the Ringling School of Art and Design, and watching them work has been nothing short of a true inspiration.

yeah Skeletor rules!
I can remember He-Man and all the toys :)
Maybe Skeletor should be more blue-purple-black like the original, but it looks good as it is.

Well, I intend on adding a hint of those colors later, but like I said, this is a WIP, and I've basically only worked on adding major lights and shadows...
Thanks for the positive feedback.:)

For me it's little too dark.

hmmm...maybe I just have the brightness on my monitor set too high, then, because to me it looked fine. I'll have to up the brightness just a tad and see if that makes any difference.
Here's an update. It's going a bit slow, due to classes and such, so pleae bear with me.

i'd agree with yasek: a bit too dark.
how about bringing some light over across his arm, wrist and sword? a few highlights there would help, i think.
also, on his lower jaw - his bottom row of teeth are kinda undefined right now.
very nice - skeletor has never been so bad-ass.

Very cool Id like to see some more creativity with the arm i know the cartoon one is basic but i think giving it a torn muscle llok or something extra to the arm would realy help the pic alot
Great stuff

really cool, i think some more ambient lighting, where you have the tealish bounce light, would help pop him out of the background a bit more. Maybe a hint of warmth from the ground too? like a really dulled out orange...just ideas.
looks nice. ethereal and Death-like

I like how you kept the line work on it. I guess it might be a little dark but good job on the piece.

kewl. Skeletor rocks. Im interseted in how it turns out. Looks like you got your undercoat finished. The lighting reminds alot of Brom with that pointy sunlight.
Looks to be great.

I wish I could have gone to their painting demo.
Nice peice, I like the newer colors alot. Only crit is that it is really dark. I know you probably meant for it to be dark, but its almost straining my eyes to look at it.. other than that loosk pretty good!
