Flea sorta Bug. A part of a series of colored sketches.
Well I am working on the visual development of story book for kids. The book is written by a friend. At some point we hope to put the book project online together with the artwork :) Right now, these are studies or random shots at ideas with regard to the visual style for the book.

are you sure you aren't going to scare the hell out of these poor kids with this artwork? pretty gory to me, but it's nice anyway. :>
you should probably post more, or explain the context in which this creature is going to appear.

I agree with sparth, I mean it is a nice looking flea, but little kids aren't going to want to see it. Its to scary for little kids!

Lobo--your drawing style reminds me of Iain Mcaig--has he been an influence?--ty

Sparth,
iwasink,
Thanks for the comments
I agree with the both of you that a bug of that sort is sure to scare kids silly. Well, firstly I didnt mention the age group. Its 12 and upward. The way i sometimes tackle an idea is to not put too many restrictions for myself in the begining. I will do several attempts for each character, and its only later that I being shortlisting what would be good and what can be omitted. That way, it is easier and better for spontaniety to show through in a design. That is only my way of working. It may be not be the best.
Thank you for bringing it up.
tyboogie- I very much admire Ian Mcaig's style. I got to see his work only last year. But I would also say that he bears an influence. Though it may not show through in most of my recent works, I have been influenced a lot by the earlier artists of Mad magazine, Sam Viviano, Mort Drucker and many more.

Looks good! Maybe some colorful blots in the back would make it more kiddy-style and fun to look at...

Fozzybear,
Funk,
Thank you so much kind sirs ;) I appreciate the feedback and suggestions. I'm at an experimental stage in doing the artwork on the book. I've been given free reign to explore my ideas, so I will post them up.
