hmm, if he added more details into the walls, more attention would be brought there and thus, less on the intended focal point (the window)

I love the texture and form,

Good stuff.
Was this charcoal?

;)

That's really nice. I would love to reach this level with my pencil work. If you have any more, post 'em up!

Nice piece and great attention to detail.

I think you can make the awning above the door stand off more by pushing the shadow of it a little more darker. Use your darks to push elements back and save your darkest darks, your blacks, to help draw your eyes to your focal point and to pop off your whites. It's all you really have to make your brightest whites stand off. Your eye will be drawn to the brightest part of the page, so save those darks to help pull them forward.

The object to the left of the door looks like it would be round and I'd give it more of a core shadow to do that. The pole that it is attached to is confusing me a bit as I can't tell if it's attached to it or not. Maybe work on that a little more. Scan the image and experiment with contrast in Photoshop to help you experiment a bit.

But I'd say the image is pretty nice. Concentrate on you light source and use it to really define everything in your image. Great control with your pencil, keep it up.

You should try some dark colored Cansons and some colored pencils. It's a really fun and fast technique. I find it more intuitive to work with on a dark paper and working backwards, lighting it with pencils or chalk and letting the paper do your darks. I find it more intuitive to how our eyes work, that is our eyes see light.

The piece is nice and you're showing that perhaps you might be a good prospect to being a texture mapper in the videogame or entertainment industry.

Another fun thing to do with this image would be to do some color tiniting to it with a color layer in Photoshop.

Nice piece!
