Hello, and Tablet?

Hey, I stumbled across this site tonight and have been quite blown away with some of the artists and their works here... I'm very interested in Painter and digitail art now, I'm thinking of buying a tablet... And I know almost nothing about them, so if anyone could tell me which is good... where to buy ect ect. would be great... anyway, thanks in advance

So, Maybe the intuos? I read alot about it, seems the 9x12 would be a good tablet... any opinions?

a) what is your computer
b) what kind of art you're planning on doing
c) what level you're skills are at at the moment

A) P4, 3.2 ghz, using 2 20'' CRT's
B) Well, right now i've done mostly traditional paintings... drawings... and some graphic design... but i'm very interested in tablets and would like to learn and experment with them.... i don't have any up on a URL right now.... but i'll put some up soon...
C) Eh, fairly decent at the moment, for hands on art... same goes for photoshop ... going to try to get painter and play with that ....

A) P4, 3.2 ghz, using 2 20'' CRT's

Its preferable to use one screen for painting, you definitely don't want a fat border between the two halves of your work area. 20' should be plenty.
I recommend getting at least a gig of ram if you don't have that much already.
Really helps with big files and big brushes in photoshop and painter.

Thing is, the size of the tablet you need depends on what kind of art you are going to do. For graphic dezign you need a bigger tablet then for sketching, and such. I'd go with 6x8 Intuos (Intuos2 is a good choice, so far a few people on this board had trouble with intuos3), maybe a 9x12 if your budget can take it and you like working in big strokes.

If you're a college student (i'm not sute if they accept high-school), then head to academicsuperstore.com, they got stuff with student/teacher discounts. Otherwise, i would try getting it in a reputable online computer store.

I noticed Amazon.com has it under 400... good price?

Err, even if it's intuos3 its a tad pricy.
Like i said, try looking for intuos2 instead.
