Mornin all
Love the web community going on here so i had to post my two ents worth

Some things i've done before
My shadow ....it never leaves me
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/oakbeast/shadow%20final.jpg

My first scuplture  I took this one to E3 and stumbled across a toy designer who thought it would helpful if he laughed at me and smugly said "you got lucky".
He wasn’t joking....he then smirked at his friend and left.....WOW! .... I guess the Sun Man action figure set didn't sell too well huh?

Anyway

This guy fell off the balony seconds after i took this pic

This is the remake and I can't wait to be done. I went with less of an alien like appearnace and someting that would appear more "intelligent". All being said the first stood about a foot and a half tall ....this one is bout two feet long and 9 or ten inches in height.

I'm planning on going smaller the next time and also leave the hulking menace stuff behind for a bit so i can focus on more "human subjects". I've got a busy year ahead of me.

g'night

Feedback is welcomed

Ok, I love what you've done here. I especially like the second one there. (Poor guy fell off the balcony? I would be pulling out my hair) I hope it's alright. I am curious how you did his hair? It's something I have been struggling with of late, and would love to hear your technique. Very inspiring work for me, as I am currently working on my own sculps...(learning as I go).....I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Thanx Scotty

I used a clay syringe to get the fine hairs, you should be able to get one at any arts n crafts store.
It looks like a metal plunger that has interchangeable heads

As for the main body hair. I took a carpet laying concept and flattend large peices of super sculpey then cut into them with long random/ jagged strokes.

I then laid it over the beast's muscle/skin layer and pressed lightly to get the air pockets out then retouched any areas that had too much pressure applied.

Once I was satified I baked it
repeat process for touch up if needed.

Thanks for replying man...I'll give those methods a try. (the laying out flat pieces is what I've been trying to do....so at least I know I'm on the right track) The Syringe idea is definately something I would have never thought of.:chug: Much thanks.....and I look forward to seeing more.

ah... another sculptor... i like the yeti, the hair looks great, i like the original better, the one who commited suicide off the balcony~ that dragon of yours is incredible, i love the details with the scales and horns~ good stuff. as for your black alien stretchy figure, its a nice concept, i like the drawing better, with the armpit wings, and the little stringy pieces coming off of him~ would love to see some more work of yours! :chug: glad to have you on board... are you a professional? and how did you make the dragon wings??? they are so thin~

Hi Battle Monkey

The wings were made of door screen wire with armature rods to layout the inbetween bone supports. Then I pressed super sculpey onto both sides and baked in layers of finer detail.

But before all that i had to plan how i was going to support the wings off thier own weight. So both wings have a copper support beam that shoots to the center of the body, taking the guise of the major support bone attached to the back of the spine.

As far as being a professional sculptor or making money with it? ......one of these days I will ( I keep telling myself) I just don't know where or who to talk to. Plus a guy who is self taught ( tho i had some professional guidance in my self education) may have trouble getting thier foot in the door at some places but I'll never give up.

So my plan as of now is to amass a good set of sculpts get photos professionaly taken and head to the Toy Fare later this year to make some contacts, ya never know huh?

In the meantime I'm planning on going to MICA and participate in thier industrial design program but it doesent start till next fall semester that a good time away.

Toys or concept modeling would be a dream job for me but come to think of it being paid to do art work anywhere would be a dream job :)

Yo, that shadow guy is definitely creepy, he looks like he emerged from an oil slick or something. His hunched posture works well. Nice work!
