What does that subscribtion forums and threads option is used for???

If you subscribe to a thread, you'll get an e-mail when someone has replied to the thread. You won't get a new e-mail before you've visited the thread.
I guess the subscribe to forum option means you'll get a new e-mail when someone has posted a new thread in it...
