The Official Roomates Thread for the SF Workshop

For those who will be staying at the hotel with other members of the site, we have a thread to help you find your roomates you desire.

The hotel is requiring a credit card in order to reserve the rooms. You will need to decide who is contributing their card number to hold the room. Once you check out of the hotels after doing boatloads of art at the workshop, you can make sure that you all take care of your share of the rooms.

This is going to be the best workshop yet. The experience we have planned for everyone, including the instructors is inspiring beyond anything we have done before. This will be the only North American Workshop in 2005. I hope everyone is able to join us for an amazing experience in art...and life.

Ok, let´s start it.
I´m planning to fly from spain from 6 to 13 that would be hotel from 6 to 12.
I would like those 2 free days in San Francisco to walk arround look, interesting places, etc... common tourist things.....

I won´t complain if you snore, i don´t plan to sleep so much..... :wink:

I don´t still now if those two days will be at the same rate or will be necesary to find anyother cheap place to keep the budget low.

i (or someone with a credit card ^-^) will be booking the room for 6th to 12th, thats one day before workshop (for arriving etc) and 2 days after (for a bit of sightseeing and leaving)
if anyone wants to stay longer, they can just arrange with the peeps at the backpacker there (like i did when i needed a bed for an extra night when i missed my plane in berlin ^-^)
if anyone one wants to stay shorter (like leave before 12) let me know so i can mention it when i book (wont be for a while yet so no worries ^-^)

it comes to about $20 a night per person, give or take a few bucks

8 people can fit in an 8 bed room, obviously ^-^ theres also 4 and 2 bed rooms.

I am going to be coming for the New Year and staying until the end of the workshop (flying out the 11th). I'm really hoping to find some people to room with the 6th-10th. My girlfriend will be with through friday night, then flying back sat morning. So if anyone wouldn't mind, she could be an extra person to chip in for those two days. We might even have a room already, but chances are we'll get some cheap ass room then switch over on the 6th. Anyone else need a roomie?

A friend of mine (who's not going to attend the ws though) and myself are flying over, arriving quite late(7pm) on the 6th, and are planning to stay in the hotel from 6th - 11th ( last evening is partynight, right?) We're going to stay till 20th, though, (not all the time in SF), so if anyone wants to group up and get a cheap room (if that's still possible then) from 18th - 20th, drop me a PM. hey hito, the backpackers got back to me, turns out you cant book (online atleast) more than 60 days in advance.

and they dont ussually book more than groups of 4 (pollicy thing) so that meens that my group will have to split up. thinking about it groups of 4 are easyer to organise (had a hard time with my berlin group of 8 ^-^)

Because if it is for a night, the hotels we blocked for you guys are about the same, maybe $2-$3 more a night and you get your own bathroom... Also, at the Galleria there is a huge terrance that everyone can gather on at night to hang out and draw. Also, if you dont want to share a room with 3 other people you can ask for a room by yourself or with just one more person. Just wondering, if you guys have any questions about the hotels or anything else feel free to hit me up.

I do not care to share the room with anyone, neither pay a bit more if many people stay togheter.
But, can you tell me if the rates are kept if you stay a couple more days? Let´s say until 13 :)

Then I just need 3 roommates to stay with me those dates.
If not, i´ll reserve a hostel for myself for the 2-3 additional nights...

Anyway, would need some people to room with the workshop dates. I´m big and ugly but i´m clean and never have heard myself snoring.... :angel:

If you want to stay extra nights I believe thats fine and the rates are the same. You have to mention "Concept Art" when reserving your room. However, you would have to decide with your roomates how the payment is going to be divided upon checkout. When I reserved the room they said it's $169 per night if there are 4 people in the room.. I thought it was only going to be $129 per night.. anyone else reserve a room at the Galleria yet? They said it's $129 for 2 adults, but they charge extra for more people.. Should I call back and cancel, then make a new reservation for 2 people and then just sneak the other 2 in to make it cheaper?

The pacific tradewinds backpackers (http://www.pactradewinds.com/) looks pretty good, but I can stay at any place near the workshop location as long as prices are around $20 a night. The more roommates, the better!

Hey I'm gonna be attending the SF workshop, and I don't know anyone, and have no roomates. I would like to get there before the 7th and stay after the 10th. I'd like to stay at a hotel where I'm able to meet the most CA artists. I'm a mellow person thats game for anything, and I'd like to get the full Workshop experience, I'm gonna be really hyped because I've never been to California and I've never been around an element like this before. please let me know if you'd like to room with me, or are looking for a room mate.

The problem is that the people is going on diferent dates.

If the people that´s going to the workshop and is planning to room at the galleria hotel post the dates they´re planning to stay, the groupping would be a lot easier.... and there would be no people hanged because their roomates leave one or two days before.

I´ve put names random, so this not means that those are going to be your final roomates. I think this is not going to be a problem since we´re all in the same hotel.

£305 for tuition
£90-100 for hotel
£100 for food and stuff (i wont be buying much except for 7up and pizza ^-^)

so total for me is £855 (give or take a few ^-^)

i have paid for the flights, and i just need to scrounge up enough money for the rest ^-^

Didn't know where else to ask this, so I'll ask it here. Do flight prices change, or do they stay the same. Thing is I can either go ahead and pay my tuition or book flight and I'll have to wait till Dec to pay for the other. I just don't know if I wait to book the flight if the prices I've looked at will be higher since it'd be closer to the dates?

Fallen11, i think the flight will go up. Mine went 40E since i first saw it to my booking. Look for price again today and went up again 60E. You should hurry up in your flight booking.

Could be posible to organize this a bit more?

Everyone can make the reservations by phone or by e-mail. The hotel told me the same thing and they gave me and email too.

I´m planning to make the booking for my room sometime the next week.

I´ve tought that we can set a limit date, let´s say november 6 (the end of the next week), to send all the information of the groups (names (real ones), cc# and dates) all at once to save a bit of work.

If you talk with your group components to decide who would be the person responsible of the reservation and send me the info by email (javi.cuesta@euskalnet.net) or by PM i can compile that data and send it to Mellisa or to the hotel email all at once.
The cc# is only a Credit Card Guarantee, that means that the payment will be done there.

I think that this is an easy way to make the bookings. If not, every group would be responsible of their own bookings. Remember that the reservations have to be made by the end of november.

Tell me what you think people.

My girlfriend and I will actually be in town before that but to save on cash we'll be moving to the galleria on the 5th or 6th. She'll be flying out the 7th, though, and I'll be staying behind then flying out on the 11th. So if this would work with anyones schedule or groups you can count me in. we could have 5 people for a night or two to save some extra cash.

For those of you staying extra nights, you'd need to figure out your balance with whomever you are rooming with. All charges will me computed upon check out. so if your roomates stay from the 06-11 and you stay a extra night, you'd have to cover for that extra night (unless your roomates are really nice and decide to help you with the extra costs). Hope that makes sense.

Nothing is closed yet (except the groups that are closed, wich i moved to top) so none of those groups or dates are definitive.
The two hotels (Galleria and Triton) has the same rate: 129$/night 4ppl room.

I´m just trying to keep things in order, but now you know the dates other people is going you should talk to each other and start closing groups.
PM the ones you want to stay with to make your groups.
A credit card guarantee is needed to make the booking, so, one person of the group should be able to give a cc#

You can talk with Melissa to make the booking or contact directly with the hotels by phone or by mail. The person who´s working along with Melissa collecting names for the bookings is Jacques Rachal.

There´s no problem if your group wants to stay a couple more days. I don´t know if you want to stay much more. (I booked from 6 to 13 at the same rate.)

January is wintertime for SF and it will be a bit chilly. I'd say wear lots of layers and a light jacket. Maybe bring a rain jacket too cause rain is common that time of year. Average January temps range from 46-56°F, 7-13°C. Bring those thermal underwear for sure! :wink:

hi everyone
i'm currently looking for roommates. i'll be in sf from the 6th-12th. i'm not staying at the official ca hotels though. i booked a room at the crowne plaza hotel(union square) a few blocks down sutter street(very close to the galleria and the triton). i decided to stay there because i got a huge discount from a friend. but i have a feeling that i'll be spending more time at the other hotels. the room will be $59.00 a night for everyone. if i can get 3 other people, it'll only be around $15 a night per person. if you re interested and want to save some money, pm me.

Got my tuition paid, and I've going to either get a flight from Seattle or a Greyhound from B'ham, but I'm getting down somehow! Now all I need to figure out is where I'm going to stay while I'm down! I'll be there from Jan 6-11. I've got family in Modesto (2hrs east of SF) but I don't necessarily want to spend 4hrs a day commuting to save money on lodging, so I'm down with roomin' with anyone.

i am staying with maus this trip... some of you might remember him from laquinta he was one of the watts crew. he had to get a bigger room so there is plenty of floor space and he is offering floor space to cut the costs a bit. personally none of us ever sleep durring this trip so its basically just a place to put your stuff. hit me up if your still needing a place to crash cause he would appreciate it and you'll have a space.
