This may seem oddly rubbish to some of you pros but this is my first ever painting done entirely in Photoshop. I'd say it took about 2-4 hours overall. I lost the reference photo somewhere on my harddrive, but here goes (by the way I'm 15 and willing to learn many things):

Thankyou for reading.

Oh I'm also aware that the microphone is very off, but I worked on it for about an hour and decided to leave it as it was before ruining it any further.

nice color choice overall.. try to work on anatomy
dunno how good you captured the essence because i don't know the ref pic..
i would advice that you should practice drawing from life first before working digitally..
post more!

the painting technique is fantastic. What brush did you use? The regular ol' hard round one?

Great colors!

I think its great...sure there are flaws but you don't need me to tell you that. I disagree with Lim (however I respect their opinion) in the sense that yes I think you should work on your anatomy but everyone needs to do that...but hell keep painting too....
As someone who has only recently started to learn to draw (period) and paint digitally, I get frustrated at the 'you shouldnt be painting till you can draw x, y z'. Perhaps that is true...but its fun to paint even if I can't draw correctly.
I may not know a lot about drawing but I do know a lot about teaching and learning so if painting digitally is where you get your kicks..then do it...again and again and again....you can learn all the other stuff as you go along.

drawing and painting fingers on a guitar is the hardest thing to do ;) well done nevertheless, i like your colors and lightning, but you have cold lights as well as cold shadows - maybe warmer a light color would help the pictures plasticity. plus the microphone looks off, maybe you should just leave it out. i think it would contribute to the overall composition.

yeah, my english sucks big time.

the pink lighting is really off. you have a a strong pink light on each of the fingers, but they are holding onto the neck of the guitar, which would block the pink light coming from the right

about the microphone it doesnt help the piece overall too much, and not just because of the shape and size of it. its just cropped too much and looks odd.

also draw from life as much as you can, you'll be suprised on how much it helps with other parts of drawing. also trying painting traditionally too, i will help ya get used to digital a lot easier. digital media is not the best to jump right into, it may be fun to do, but it can hurt ya more than help in the begining. it appears you know the basics pretty well so goign into digital stuff now won hurt ya at all

i think your drawing ability is fine and this is a great piece for a first digital, jus keep on pumping em out :}

hey thanks a lot, I've been working digitally for what feels like a good few years now, but this is the first time I've ever tried to make something look as though it was painted. Only reason I haven't used traditional media is that digital is cheaper and that I probably couldn't afford many colouring paints (including the fact that I don't know how to use them properly). When I turn 16 I'm considering working at a Photography shop I worked in last year for work experience so hopefully I could make a bit of money on my own.
As for proportions I have _never_ been good with hands, they're such simple things but I can never ever draw or paint them properly; lighting well that is odd because of the reference picture, it was on stage with all sorts of odd lighting and here is the reference pic:

Odd lighting...

who that musician is? The reason I ask is becuase the thumb position on the guitart neck is extremely odd. Normal fingering forces your thumb to rest in the center of the back at the neck for a more relaxed position.

However, when you see a position like this, the thumb actually fretting a string, chances are the guitartist really knows his stuff and has the dexterity to pull it off. That, or he has complete crap for style if this is an accident, in which case. he will probably end up with a severe case of authritis

Just curious,

Z

Ahhh much better now we can see the ref. That left hand could be made to look much better now I can see the line of the original....
Anyway...you were saying about hands...
this is a site with good hand ref
