This was done for Infinity Uprising's (http://infinityuprising.com/) "Nightmare Compendium". I'm just now starting to do concepts, which I've never really done before, and I'd like to see any C&C on this one. He's supposed to be a deep-space alien creature. Also, visit my website (http://jamessmithart.com/) to see some other work and some color studies that I'm doing so I can try and learn how to paint.

Enough talking: :)

hey bro... I think you need to work on the hip area..

its seems a little akward the way he is standing the front looks great..

I would also try taking the foreground arm and reaching it forward.. likes it going to get you... or curled back ready to lunge...

some parts seem a little too human as well..

I would take a look at some animals... lions .. rinos ... and try to incorperate some of what you see there..

Well said, man! I'll definetly research more on animals and such for the next pic, and I'll see what I can fix for this one!

Hey

He looks really stiff atm man - and as stated theres some anatomy issues - get a nice pose worked out - let ur pencil run around the page and FEEL where the weight is going - the block in ur basic forms and THEN go in and do all ur detail. It just needs to be pushed a bit farther and it'll be coo

For some reason it reminds me of that Pinky Demon thing in Doom3 - look it up if you can for reference.

You got it, I was thinking of him a little bit while designing. Future stuff will be improved. :)

Because you've based it on human anatomy it looks like a biped leaning over rather than a quadruped. Pick up a book on animal anatomy (this one (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0486200825) is good and pretty cheap) so you can see the things most four legged creatures have in common, and how they are similar and different from people. You'll then be able to invent creatures that make anatomical sense.

I think I've seen this type of creature before.
