I finally got to see all the Clone Wars cartoons on Cartoon Network. They're better than the movies! Beautiful...So the very last chapter features the new villian from Revenge of the Sith, General Grievous. The Star Wars databank says...

"Part non-humanoid alien, part custom-designed droid, Grievous hunted Jedi for sport and proudly displayed his victims' lightsabers around his belt as trophies of his conquests. His unorthodox fighting form and mechanical enhancements gave him an edge in close-quarters combat, and his strategic ingenuity and flawless cunning rendered him almost invincible against the Jedi."

If this character in the new movie pulls off half the moves he performs in the cartoon I will shit my pants! I think I may have found a new favorite bad guy, more badass than Darth Maul and Vader. So I was inspired and did this over the past few days. Im finally looking forward and hyped to see this movie. Feedback is always welcome...

lol, that robot looks entirely hilarious :O , the "anatomy" and other things looks perfect for me only the painting style looks smudgy but I dont know if that is how you want to leave it ? Personally have never seen any Clonewars from any media so dont know what character this is :[ but the robot looks cool

Well I wasn't really going for funny...I wanted a hardcore action scene with a menacing dark mood! I left the background smudgy to focus on the droid, I think it gives the piece more energy to see the strokes. I used Painter's knife tool to lay down the tones and tightened it with Photoshop. I think the movie version of the General will be closer to six feet so this is really exagerated. Check out those cartoons!

then if you were not intenting to make this funny but IT DOES appear funny to me then one should analise why does it look hilarious then because it doesnt help that you were intenting to make it look dark and scary if it does not appear like that to the neutral person looking at it, its a nice pose I like it a lot but its just not looking scary to me.... is it because of the toes of the robots left leg that are hanging on air like that or in generally that the leg is so expressively up there like that ? then another thing thing is that even to the guy with the sword the robot is not looking scary hence he is just standing there like that so it appears more like the robot is performing some kind of a dance for him....hey I just noticed that he is cutting a head of the other guy away !!! and what is that white laser looking line leaving from the robots right leg ? I think the mood will change already a lot if the guy in front will be in active defence position and I think that maybe the legs should be on the ground because when he is hitting how is he keeping balance....yes of course its possible to keep the balance but it looks more intimidating and powerful if they were on the ground, these were my ideas coming from this picture >:D

First Pic:
His stance defiantly makes him look silly, but anyone who has seen Clone Wars knows those Jedi are in for some hurting. The cutting of the Jedi's head was hard to notice as well. It’s probably due to the fact that his arm is straight. If you swing you arm toward your body, do you keep it straight, or do you bend at the elbow? Try it yourself. See what you like and what feels/looks right to you.

Second Pic:
You fixed the arm quite a bit. I would suggest toying with the hand (maybe palm up?). It still looks slightly odd. My main quarrel with this one is the fact that you took away the idea that he can use a third lightsaber with his foot!

Don't get me wrong, I opened this and was immediately filled with joy. Clone Wars made General Grievous so damn cool, I just hope Lucas keeps most of his character. BTW, do you know of somewhere that has the episodes still up for free? I can't find the main site anymore and the Star Wars site makes you pay to watch them....Anyway, great job, I love it.

okay so it was laser in his leg, I was thinking about it too but makes me to wonder how does the robot move then ? Is he or it always carrying the laser along ? I was asking my daughter too about this picture and she said that the first one looked scary too so it can be that its in my eye ? Well that was my first impression of the image that it looks funny, which there is nothing wrong with but if it is intented to be dark and scary then it is not okay but then again you never know who see what in a picture (terrible rambling here going on lol!) :dur:

Egets- First of all let me thank you for your participation and input in this thread. I really like the higher contrast in your image, I think it makes the scene more dynamic. I also like the arms new location, I think where my arm is positioned the jedi would have to be closer to the viewer. One of the things I wanted to get across was the fact this guy can wield three lightsabers at once while also maintaining balance. The cartoon has him pulling off all kinds of maneuvers in a convincing manner. The general is supposed to be standing on a rock which isn't very clear, the foreground is a bit too non descriptive. I will post a new image with some of the changes.

Spacey- I was just looking for those too, aside from the Star Wars site I seem to remember a web site featuring all of them for free...Maybe I saw it on CG Channel.com. Ill let you know if I find a link.

I've seen this guy in clone wars.. and wow he's a real threat to Jedi's.. as everyone's said his movement is unlike anything seen before and 3 light sabers is something to be awed at.

I really like this pick has a good sense of mood about it, terrified Jedi and a very menacing looking Grievous. the colour certainly adds to it also.

he is the badguy for the 3th movie right? I have seen the cartoon and I think he is definatly the most badass foe ever! in starwars. His moves are killer, congrats to the guy who thought him up

Keep the first image, he looks that way.
Sure it's 'goofy' looking, because his style of fighting is very unorthodox and strange. The second picture looks terrible compared to the first one. Grievous just looks 'funny' because he fights with his feet. His movements are sorta ape-ish in a very agile way. The second picture just throws away Grievous's uniqueness to make a very typical menacing robot.
I like the first one alot more, since I saw that clonewars short I know what he does in motion. The strangeness of the first picture really captures him, he looks scarier as he's just... not human.

Vegas I thought your picture completely captured the moment in clonewars. Everything about the picture strikes you with the same emotion as the cartoon did. I have to admit I couldn’t tell you what it would look like to unbiased eyes, because I am a huge fan of Clonewars (animations, less of the movie) as far as his size, it did look to me like he was that big in some scenes. Also, your drawing a picture of a Jedi, they didn’t show open fear to the point of stumbling like idiots, so I would have to agree more to the first picture. But the change to lighter browns was an improvement. The desert light poking through the tattered remains of the star ship really stuck in my memory and that little tint adjustment brought it home. Keep up the great work Mike. I’m impressed. :}
